It's more like a pat answer that allows them to not have to think about it. However, I don't totally fault them, because religion uses strong emotional manipulation to get and keep converts. Most have been indoctrinated since a young age.

For them, the real search for truth doesn't really go far. They already have an answer that people around them tell them is the truth, no reason to look further. And they are discouraged by the church from listening to contradictory worldviews. Add to that the fact that people really don't like to change when they think they are right. Only a small percent of us really care to look into such things, and do it honestly.

People in all cultures around the world indicate they have a
sense of something greater than themselves within..
So on their search to find this truth they search out
religion. Rememaber religion is only a belief system. It was
derived by followers seeking confirmation of their own beleifs.
Open minded modern people are beginning to see religions
as restrictive controling with out dated beliefs that have no
backing.
Try Metaphysics the combo of Science and Spirituality.
It gives what we sense within (spirituality) some scientific
validity.

Quite the opposite I should imagine. But if you look at the Big Picture, Evolution is a theory not a Law. Religion is a theory not a Law. Neither can be disproved because both boast the same evidence. Science looks at a flower and says, Hey look at that evolution process, while religious look at a flower and say, Wow, look at that creation.
"Reality is an illusion, albeit a very persistant one." Einstein. So anywhere you go to look for Truth, you will find it when you are satisfied and comfortable with what you find. This could be religion or science. It really doesn't matter.

They either have given up the search for truth or never began one. Religion is a search for MEANING, not truth, anyway. Meaning and truth are not exclusive, but so far in human existance they might as well be.

I don't understand the question. What is "the truth" to non-believers? If there is no God, why would people try to seek "a truth" or "a purpose"? Without God's existence, we are all here by chance, therefore we have no purpose. Therefore there is no "truth" to seek.

Religion gives us purpose and gives us a reason to seek God and to find the truth. GOd is the only one that is capable of giving us the Truth. For non-believers, who do they turn to for the 'truth'? Themselves? Then what is that 'truth'?

Two men fall into a pool filled with sharks. One man is a shark expert, and knows what to do. He swims to the bottom, and remains very still. He conserves his air, and eventually is rescued. The second man doesn't know anything about sharks. So the second man begins immediately to pray for his rescue. The second man knows nothing better to do, and frankly, what could it hurt?

Religion is what people do when they don't know any better way.

Put simply, Yes. It is much easier to believe a story and have convenient black and white answers for everything than to think about the universe for all its 'grey areas'. Thinking empirically is hard work and unfortunately most are not up to the task.

Religion is like stopping at Baltic Avenue in the Monopoly game of life.

Hopefully that's true. When you make enough mistakes in your life and are able to say "gee what did I do wrong" you hopefully are led to the instruction book that was written for you. After you've experienced enough pain by doing it "your way". Fear of God is the beginning of wisdom and ALL truth. This is my belief! Life is a maze. He knows the beginning to the end. He has shown us the way of less pain. Open your heart!

Let me ask you something? If there is no God, then what is the truth.
Nothing. When we die we see black. Oh wait, no we dont see black, we don't see.
We came from Ape's? Monkeys? Oh wait, but first we were this cell in the universe that burst and made a whole planet?
Let me ask you something...where did those cells come from?
Where did the universe come from?
If there was absolutely nothing...then there would be absolutely nothing...

When you actually BEGIN your search, It will take you where the truth is...The Bible.
