as long as you are not allergic to iodine you will be fine, your body will flush the dye out. they will start an IV and when they take the picture with contrast (dye) they will put it true your IV, you may have the sensation of burning for a few minutes, but drink plenty of fluids after and you should be fine, They will give you these instructions after your test.

Usually they do blood and urine tests first. An Xray will show the stone, as will a CT scan, and ultrasound will show them as well.

It sounds like you are talking about the intravenous pyelogram (IVP). In this procedure the patient is injected with a dye and x-rays are taken as the dye enters the kidneys and travels down the urinary tract. The dye is harmless unless you are allergic to shellfish. It's iodine and it'll be fine, I've had it done and it was no big deal. If you are in true kidney failure they can't do this test. Unless you're in kidney failure or allergic to shellfish, this is the best test possible.

If you're freaked out, tell them you are freaked out and want some medication for anxiety. They'll usually give you something if you tell them you are not coping well. And if they say you cannot take a pill and you have to have an empty stomach then ask for an INJECTION to settle your nerves. All the good anxiety relief drugs come as injectables, trust me.

Best of luck to you.

I assume you are a male . If you have a 4millimeter kidney stone you will find out what its like to have a Baby. Its the closest thing a man can get to childbirth. They put this dye in your blood to see the stone better. Its safe , otherwise they would tell you.I was told to drink lots of water to flush it out but it didn't work so i had to have it smashed with soundwaves.GOOD LUCK you need it.

I couldn't just sit around and do nothing like my doctors suggested.

They didn't want me to do anything or to take herbs or herbal remedies, but I had to try something - they just wanted me to do dialysis!

This program allowed me to take control of my health. I went from Stage 4 to Stage 3 kidney disease.

It was easy to do and my BUN, creatinine and anemia are all in better ranges.

you've gotten a discomfort that would knock you on your ft. you does not have the means to stand it. you may go the two to the emergency room or your Dr. they might do the two a CT test or MRI and that they might locate the stones in case you had any. they might positioned you on discomfort drugs and supply you a splash video exhibit you may urinate in for here few days to verify in case you may pass the stones (which particularly relatively hurts). in case you do no longer pass the stones you've gotten surgical operation or have them blasted by technique of sonic waves. Mine surpassed and that i won't come to a selection which grew to become into worse, passing kidney stones or having my Son needless to say and he grew to become into over 10 pounds. Passing those 3 small stones grew to become into relatively, relatively, relatively painful!!!!

i had a friend that had that done. It is a dye is all it is.....the dye makes the stones show up so the doctor knows just how little or big they are so they know whether or not surgery is to be done. No big deal.
