try going to www.mixedchicks.com they are products specially formulated for biracial hair. I am biracial. When I was a kid, my mom would dip a brush in very hot water and brush my hair, and that was the best way to get the tangles out. Then shed usually put it ina french braid, and it would look pretty smooth. Now that I'm older, I usually just use mousse to keep it from frizzing. Get a curl enhancing mousse, or mousse-gel works good on mixed hair as well. Alberto Curl enhancing mousse gel is good and you dont need alot. Make sure your blowdryer has a diffuser if she wants to wear her hair down. Without one, she's gonna have frizz. Hope that helps.

I second the Mixed Chicks notion. Go the site (www.mixedchicks.net) and click on the products page or the kids page. There is a kid with before and after. He looks to be about 11 and biracial. His hair goes from afro puffy to GAP commercial-quality curls. The stuff works on me and my family. The trick is to apply it to wet hair and air dry after a shampoo. Good luck.
