We bought a 37 inch HP LCD TV. We bought it on the 11th of February. On the 16, my two year old was playing and threw a ball at the screen busting the display. On the 18th we tried taking the TV back but they wouldn't take it. On the 19th we were told that home owners insurance would pay for it, but then was called back to be told it was a mistake that they would not pay for it. Next was HP. They told us it couldn't be repaired and we were just out. Now keep in mind that we bought the four year extended warrenty which doesn't cover accidents. We had that refunded at the store when we tried to return it. We have a $1100 tv in our bedroom that isn't returnable or fixable. Does anyone have any suggestions. Something that we have missed here. We are going to take it to a junk yard Monday if we can't figure any thing else out. Thanks for your time and ideas!

First of all, my child is not a brat! She is two for goodness sakes and did not know what she was doing. We have statefarm, which the whole experience with them has been rediculous! I just wanted to see if any one knew something that we didn't. The tv is now in a junk yard and we bought a new tv with a glass front. It would take a pretty strong arm to bust this one. We'll get a plasm when the kids are gone to college. Thanks for all your responses.

MAN ! I just had a customer whose KID threw a magnet at their LCD screen after only owning it for 1 WEEK !!

You've covered your bases.....and unfortunately short of crowning your kid with it.....it's worthless.....

And no......don't crown your kid with it. Just lock the bedroom door so he can't play in there....Then keep all your valuables you don't want him touching inside.

I'm sory to be the bearer of bad news, but your 2 year old BROKE the tv. If you had bought a waterford crystal vase at a fine jewelry store and your two year old dropped it or threw a ball that knocked it off the table and shattered it, would you sweep up the pieces and take it back to the store?

Your homeowners insurance SHOULD pay for the replacement, as it was an accident. You must have a really crappy insurance company. Since you filed it, even though it was denied, the claim will still show up on your claims history, so at this point there is no downside in appealing or contesting the ruling. I would get your policy out and check it for coverages so you know exactly what provision you are trying to use to get them to pay for the replacement.

Try teaching the two year old that ball throwing belongs outside, not inside.

Go back to you"re home owners insurance policy. If it covers
accidental property damage, call them back and discuss it with them. If they still don't agree and can't show you reasonable proof why they can't help, talk to an attorney. For a small fee, he will tell you if you have a case or not. I f you do, have him wright them a letter on you're behalf. This service will cost you around $50 to $100. Other wise just toss the set, and remember,sometimes life throws you a curve ball when you least expect it . (pun intended).......

Of COURSE the store isn't going to take it back - it's not their fault that your child broke it, so why should they be out the money for your child's negligence? Frankly, I'm rather appalled that you even TRIED that route. If they had taken it back, it would be rather like stealing, the cost of which is passed on to other consumers.

I'm not sure why your homeowner's insurance won't pick up on this - you might call them again. It really depends on what the caveats and exclusions are.

You didn't miss anything. You (or your offspring) broke the TV, and the part you broke is uneconomical to replace. If your homeowners won't pay for it, then you're screwed. Don't expect too much help from the warranty people or the manufacturer. How can you expect them to stay in business if everytime someone's idiot child breaks something, they have to eat the replacement cost.
Do the letters "S. O. L." mean anything to you?

Unfortunately they cant warranty a unit if it was your fault, it wasnt a manufacturer defect.

This is exactly what happens with these lowend units.

The LCD display cost over 75% of the unit cost.

Either find another one just like it, with bad electonics but a good display and take it to a tv shop to get it swapped out.

Thats what I suggest.

Your spoiled brat just costed you $1100, I just wish I had been there when you tried to get money back from the store, I can't believe you actually did that. I bet it was hilarious. Just be happy knowing you're one more story those guys at the service desk will use when they wanna make someone laugh.

How did you buy the set? Did you use a credit card? Some credit cards cover this!

American Express calls it the "Purchase Protection Plan" : Just use your Card and the Purchase Protection Plan protects eligible purchases against accidental damage or theft for up to 90 days from the date of purchase.

Check with your credit card company!!!

We offered a small screen television from Currys that became into defective from the 2d we switched it on. They tried to no longer enable us to take it lower back, yet instructed us we had to deliver it for restore. i did no longer think of that became into in any respect honest, advertising substandard products and awaiting the shopper to watch for a restore, so I refused and have been given my money lower back. I did finally end up identifying to purchase yet another one from the comparable shop nevertheless. i'm uncertain the place you're able to stand after fifteen days nevertheless, you need to get onto them asap.

Ouch, sounds like your bedroom will no longer have a tv. The warranty coverage should be two tiered: One for components and the second for accidental. They charge enough for those extended warranties.
