because he has enough points from the National Guard Reserve. He is now active duty. (He went through MEPS on the 5th.) He told me he WILL be going to Iraq but doesn't know when yet. He is marrying a 17 year old and she is due with his child May 27th. Will this have an effect on when they ship him out or will they ship him reguardless of his childs birth date? The mother will turn 18 in the first part of June. Please, Army personel that have some experience in the matter answer this one. Thank you in advance for your answers and to those serving, THANK YOU! (If it helps, his MOS is 13delta, whatever that means.)

He will ship when his unit moves out. Not alot that can stop that, even the birth of a child, but hopefully, not that soon for your family's sake.
My concern is for your son's teen bride. She is about to get thrown headlong into adulthood without very much of a safety net. She will be having a child, getting acclimated to miltary life AND facing the quick departure of her husband to go overseas for the next 18 mos or so.
Although there is community support at the base, she's going to be asked to do ALOT alone if someone from the family is not there to help! I suggest the family get together on a plan to either move her in with family once the deployment takes place, or someone bite the bullet to be with her while he's gone.
The last thing any soldier needs on his mind going into a hot zone is worry about his family being taken care of at home. Distractions in war make soldiers make mistakes.

Good that he made SGT! Once you know his specific unit, he and you will know the deployment options.
Vist the Fort's website:

She will not be the only 17 year spouse, for certain. There are also soldiers that are 17.
Much depends on when she arrives there and all the "hassles" of housing and such, she will get her "ID" card and set up for medical care, etc, his making E-5 is helpful.
Good luck!

My brother was stationed at Ft Riley, and kinda went through the same kinda thing. He got married, and they had a honeymoon planned, tickets and all, but upon arriving to Ft. Riley was told to cancel his plans, so they could ship him out. From what I have heard, the same goes for childbirth.

It does not matter he will go. Just do you best to support his wife. Which by the way he will get tons of hell for marrying a girl he has to dish out school lunch money to. What's up with that? Good luck

If he's supposed to deploy before the baby is born, he'll deploy no matter what. However, they might let him come back for two weeks when the baby is born. It depends on the unit, and his chain of command.

They will ship him regardless...if you could avoid deployment or delay deployment because of child birth...everyone would do it...he may have a problem with the under aged fiance though...

He will deploy no matter what. A chld being born has no merit once they have orders to leave.
I know that sounds mean, but it is the truth.

I was in Iraq, some military troops, never go outside the wire.
Their stay is pretty safe.
The ones that go outside the wire, you must pray for.
All the military bases there, are fenced in. (guard towers)
Most troops fly from base to base.
