Religion is helpful, because it is one way to get a purpose to live (not the only way, though). And it will always be relevant, for there will always be ultimate questions unanswered by science. I have been baptized as an orthodox Christian, but I do not really have reasons to defend one religion instead of another one - I mean the decent religions, not the "exotic" sects that drive explicitly to mass murder or self destruction (the fact that any religion can be interpreted in such way as to justify dreadful acts is something else, as people could get such justification from non-religious convictions as well; I am talking about the *explicit* commandments).

The true religion that brings a person closer to God is helpful and relevant.
Many people have decided that religion is not helpful or relevant because they have realized that the majority of religions today do not teach the same gospel that Jesus Christ taught. So, in that sense, they are right. If a religion does not bring a person closer to Christ then it is not helpful and not relevant in that sense.
The one area where it may be considered more helpful is when one truly follows the tenets of the religion which encourage a good, moral life.

The religion is not something irrelevant, therefore a man without religion, is a man or then a woman without values, what it can lead to a corrupt society as is the one that much of the times we live. The religion is as a brake for the humanity.
Obs.: It pardons me for any grammatical error

Religion has never been helpful, and it has never been relevant. If you want support for claims for and against various religions, read "The God Delusion" - it pretty much sums up what I think.

Yes, religion is helpful. It helps me to know that there are others who believe in God as I do.
I love the tried and true ritual of the Catholic Church. I used to rebel against it as a child. Now I find comfort and security in the routine. It helps me appreciate and love God more. And being able to share that love with others makes me feel good. I awaken each day wanting to serve Him more.

It depends on your goal. If you're looking for ways to degrade our educational system, obstacles to scientific advancement, rationalizations for war, and a way to cultivate social hatreds; then absolutely Yes! Religion is most helpful and very relevant to our society.

Jesus is helpful. The word "religion" carries so much needless baggage these days that I don't normally care much for it. Jesus is more than just a religious concept. He's a real person who loves us dearly & really showed us that when He lived the perfect life we could never live and died for us in order that we, by believing & surrendering to Him, might have His righteousness to cover our sinfulness.
He's real and I wish more people could realize how real He is and how radical His love is for them. Religion can only weigh you down. Jesus can lift you up no matter what you're going through.

When is delusion helpful or relevant? Only context I can think of where it is helpful and relevant is when it is used to manipulate its adherents into doing good works they otherwise would not do. Unfortunately it is also used to manipulate its adherents into doing evil works they otherwise would not do. I don't really approve of manipulation in any context thogh the line between persuasion and manipulation is very thin and hazy at best.

depends on who you ask. I think religion has been a deadly form of hatred for centuries, so much bloodshed, so much anger, hatred and fear - all in the name of religion. Yet, all the religions that exist offer a form of moral code, a way to live a life in peace and harmony. Sadly, many people have forgotten that aspect and spend their time debating parables, stories, existence of god, did jesus live blah blah blah, and not the practising the true meaning of the moral guides in the books they so love to quote.
Love , peace and happiness.

Religion is not helpful, a relationship with Jesus Christ is. When it's all about religion and traditions the truth can get buried. If you want a life changing experience, if you want to know the meaning of life and why you were created, develop a relationship with Jesus.
