The dangers may be classified as man-made and nature driven:
1. Man made dangers: Survival dangers from terrorism and wars here and there; Widespread health hazards from increasing levels of all round pollutions, drugs and other vices; threat to peace and harmony among and within the nations, from religious, political and other pseudo-ideological bigots; and last but not the least, the impact of growing consumerism that makes man more and more dependent on material comforts and luxury rather than on finer feelings of caring and sharing, gentle (rather than crude) arts and sports... (any activity arousing finer feelings of love and compassion are referred as "gentle" and others exciting all brute instincts as "crude")
Less immediate MM dangers:
Reducing landscape for plant and animal life that would make life less secure and lack the lustre (remember that plants are capable of siphoning off toxic gases, like MIC - neem and pongamia study in Bhopal that suffered pesticide tragedy in India -; even sulphur dioxide - citrus spp - and host of others, besides CO2. And birds and animals keep the biotic balance in the planet besides warning us impending dangers like storms and earthquakes)
Reducing quality and quantity of water for increasing consumption of industry, civic and other purposes, to the extent of affecting the availability for agriculture.
Energy crisis - albeit availability of alternate sources - since increasing material consumption levels have caused exponential growth in power utilisation across the globe..
You can go on listing the MM generated problems that are getting acute and fast entering the danger zone!
2. Natural and random disasters from earthquakes, tsunami, storms, etc that are increasing in recent years; appearance of novel health concerns like bird flu, AIDS (which may keep down man's vices though) etc. Probable cosmic events that may erupt in future suo motu or due to our adventures in the space..

take your pick
there are many disastres predictions for the years between 2012 and 2020
Nostradamus, the mayas ,Egyptions Jesus ,and Terrance Mckennas time wave who put the magnetic out put of the world in to a computor projection that stopped at zero in 2012,this stops the globe and it starts turning into
the other direction ,the resulting change of currents will turn the planet into a giant washing machine cleaning the surface
then there are the posible meteor showers ,the gulf of Mexico is the result of one that would have made life exstinct for a while ,this would result in an other ice age if the globe is covered in dust
there are natural disasters
Volcanos are coming to life everywhere
the weather has giant storms like hurricanes ,tornados ,tidal waves ,earth quackes
a shift of the earth crust ,like a changing of the poles
under Anrarctica were found fosilized tropical plants indication the pole must have been in a different place then (the mainland atlantis is thought to be under it )
Now we got Global warming to contend with (see my answer on global warming)
and the USA appears to be gunning for a global nuclear conflict .it is most likely that this will get us first looking at present politics
but the planet will probably survive unless humanities bombs result it to be knocked out of its orbit
so many ends to choose from
if it wasnt so serious it would be rediculous
meanwhile enjoy life .and make the most of it at least we are all in the same boat

The hubris of man. When you ask about the dangers to "the planet" you really mean our continued survival and dominance of the planet. The planet existed long before man showed up and will continue to exist long after man ceases to exist.
The planet earth will continue to spin about the solar system with or without man as a passenger. At various times the conditions have been such that man could not exist, and times that were more optimal than today. The question you should be asking is "How long will planet earth continue to provide conditions suitable for man to exist?"

The Planet is faced with many dangers, the question is really - What dangers does the World face that we have any control over?
#1 is War, particularly when there are hateful people looking for scapegoats to their own inadequacy. Nuclear Holocaust is a real and immediate threat.
#2 is Population & Resources, more people, limited resources, lots of tension. re: #1
#3 is Environment, fisheries collapsing, water supplies dwindling, deforestation increasing CO2 levels. re: #2
#4 Politics, failing to solve our largest problems. re: #1, #2, & #3.

in all risk so in spite of if it relies upon on how far the planet is and how far we are in terms of technologies. If we are dimwits and have not made any progression in advancing in technologies, we are DOOMED. while the sunlight turns right into a pink great, the earth will the two get swallowed up or will quite break out. in spite of if, all life will perish. So, if we are able to locate planet with a substantial environment, gravity, tension, and the area between it and the make certain famous individual, and we are able to holiday at severe velocity, we are able to make it. Einstein's concept of relativity ability that the quicker we holiday, slower the time will bypass. as an occasion, if we holiday at severe speeds, it must be a million year for the guy vacationing at severe speeds, in spite of if it must be 10 years to different individuals. So, like i mentioned, it relies upon on how far the planet is and how far we are in terms of technologies.

Interesting question. Off the top of my head, somethings that would have an immediate danger (like withine a month of occurring) would be:
-- Asteroid
-- Major volcanic erruption, causing huge ash cloud
-- Pandemic. eg the Ebola virus, hopping of a plane to a major city.
-- Nuclear war
-- Someone pulling the electric plug for the world out of the socket, causing it to stop spinning (just joking, just joking!!)

The dangers come from what is in our thoughts. Envy, hatred, fear, anger, doubt, greed, etc., manifest as a harmful environment. Thoughts of joy, peace, kindness, generosity, love, understanding, etc., manifest as a nurturing, life supporting environment.
If we desire a better planet we must have better thoughts. Each thinker has the power to make a difference.

To the planet itself - changes in solar output, asteroids, comets, other non-terrestrial phenomena.
To humans - nuclear weapons, bioweapons, the things mentioned above, disease, abrupt natural climate shifts, weather, volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, other natural disasters.
