he spends ages avoiding me over something im supposed to have done, then when i apologise,, said he never got back to me about it because it wasnt an issue and he didnt want to make it into a big issue by getting back to me. He still 'thinks the world of me' and things are as they are between us. Decipher that please someone?

He's playing mind-games with you dear. He strings you along because you let him and because it makes him feel like he's in control when he can make you squirm and apologize over something that was "never an issue." Do yourself a favor and kick his sorry @$$ to the curb.
