I have a statistical study that I think will change your whole way of thinking about that question. But only if your one of those people who are affected by depression and low self esteem. The rest of you might be a little insulted. Hey, I'm just repeating the finding I read ok? A clinical study had two groups of individuals. One group was clinically depressed and the other considered mentally well balanced. Each person in each group was given a form to fill out in which they rated themselves on how they thought others perceived them. It covered all areas such as intelligence, looks, confidence, how well others liked them etc. Then they had a third neutral group rate each of those in the two other groups. As it turned out, the quote"mentally well balanced" group rated themselves much higher than did the neutral peer group. And the clinically depressed group rated themselves pretty much the same as others seen them in the same areas. The title of the article I read it in was called "The dangers of seeing yourself as you really are".I believe it was from a chapter in my college psych book.Basically the mentally ill are really sane and the sane are the ones who are mentally ill. I found it a very mind challenging and most unenexpected finding at first. But I have observed people for years since then and I do believe it has a whole lot of truth to it.
Anyway, I have always loved that study. Hope you find it of use to you as well. God's peace to you.

i can see it causing stress because you are so concerned about what others think about your image and you.. you also feel pressured to continue to always look the best and perform the best .. so stop being so into yourself :o) if its causing you problems.. but if its healthy self pride ( for ex,, just making sure your clothes aren't dirty before you walk outside) then no nothing should happen to your health as a effect of that...

Not so much for my employer, but my coworkers don't understand my pride in my work. I don't work as hard as I do for show; it is just my ethic. I like to challenge myself. I've always been this way. Others, see it as a kiss-up or that I think I am better....yada. I don't know how ppl go thru their day doing as little as possible. It isn't fair to others.
