What if the patient has renal failure or is pregnant?

Quinolones are suitable. They include ciprofloxacin, ofloxacin, nalidixic acid. The dose has to be reduced in renal failure. They are safe in pregnancy.

Levequen is the new antibiotic that is being used now, as for being in renal failure they may give lower doses more frequent since the body cannot metabolize it fast enough, and as far as being pregnant, the OB GYN will have to out way the severity of the effects on the baby, and may prescribe something totally different for pregnant women.

trimethoprim is what we usually give to patients, I would rule out pregnancy first though if pregnant something else can be prescribed
