I was wondering if some people are more concerned with the wellbeing of the physical earth ........ and less concerned with the problems of the human race ?

absolutely. i'm well inclined to go back to hunting and gathering

i would rather see our species die off then the earth to be corroded for the remaining seven billion years of its lifetime...sure, it will get over us, but it's so beautiful and perfect (and rare) and we are an infectious disease, a virus, a cancer and we're ruining it. it's a shame that something as unique as humanity has completely lost its roots and sense of self in the environment. it seems only people who have an inkling of how insignificant we are in the universe actually care what happens to our "spaceship earth." but i also think we're being irradicated even now as the earth tries to heal itself -- but our lives are too short to notice...nature laughs last, always

Well, considering that humans live on Earth, and keep all of their stuff there, concern about the physical ecology of the Earth is also concern for the problems of the human race.

As much as we may try to deny it, humans are a part of the Earth's environment and ecology, and as we wreak havoc upon that environment, it affects people.

The water used to dump toxic chemicals into, or hospital waste is the exact same water we use to wash babies, cook pasta, shampoo our hair, water our crops and make beer with.

The air we pump greenhouse gases and ozone depleting chemicals into, and fill with smog, and diesel fumes is the same air we use to provide carbon dioxide for building our crops, throwing frisbees to dogs in, keeping ultraviolet radiation from frying our skin through, and, oh yeah, breathing.

It's impossible to be concerned with the problems of the human race without also addressing the problems facing the planet the human race lives on.

What I hope is that my concern for the Earth is driven by my concern for humanity. If we mess up our home, that isn't good for us in many ways.

Can't tell you I've got it exactly right, of course. But truth lies somewhere in between placing the health of our planet above our own, and exploiting the planet as much as we can, simply so that we can drive bigger SUVs (at least for a little while).
