Passengers are assessed at an average weight of 75kgs. This simplifies the weight and balance calculations that have to be performed before an aircraft departs. Believe it or not this is surprisingly accurate. My wife weighs 55kg and I weigh 95kg. QED. I believe that South West Airlines in the US reserve the right to charge for two seats for certain passengers but this is due to their width rather than their weight, they cannot fit into the standard airline seat. Of course with the growing propensity towards obesity in the UK airlines may have to revise this figure. By the way, O'Leary's projected business model is to provide free flights with an online gambling console in every seat back!

Even better - why not send us all down the baggage belts too and put us in the hold while we're at it?!

Would you be prepared to stand on the baggage scale at check-in?!

Having worked at Heathrow for 3 years, the biggest problem with passengers was always over excess baggage (FYI everybody, this has been around as long as airlines have and is not something new!) - how about the 15 minute argument with a 2 KGs overweight passenger about paying for the extra weight?! Or even better, being physically assaulted by them as happened to colleagues?!

If they charge fatties by kilo on aircraft, they must well charge the fatty for two seats, as two average people counts as one overweight person on the aircraft...

This is an excellent idea that normal people like you and I embrace but that disgusting fatazzes will recruit every bleeding heart liberal ACLU lawyer to fight. That's the reality of living in the United States of America. And probably where you live as well if it's not the United States of America. Smelly sweaty lard-butts win. Normal people get screwed.

Topical question and my short answer is specific. I dont have self belief it could upload an unreasonable quantity of time to weigh people as they examine in, in spite of everything the comparable scales must be used as is used for weighing your bags. bags weighed, off scale, passenger on scale, trouble-free. The ingredient must be worked out, in spite of everything it is not rocket technology. Say a propose weight of as much as 18 stone free of extra fee. Over 18 stone pay extra on a sliding scale. Ffs what's the difficulty?

Assuming you mean people, it would be impossible to do reliably. Think of it, people book online and via phone or travel agents. How could get an accurate weight of every person booking a seat. Plus, it really doesn't matter. Unless you're fat enough to take 2 seats, you're only USING one seat. And planes are built to accomodate people in those seats within certain tolerances.

Keep it to yourself! If Micheal O Leary sees this Ryanair will start charging you by weight. Then it will be for the amount of air you breath while in the air. A few years ago we laughed about being charged for baggage, for gods sake don't give them any more ideas.

As Old Roamer alludes to, it is done on an average, some are more, some are less, it all averages out.
