could be severe, but probably not. you should go to a chiropractor so they can classify your headache and come up with a treatment plan and protocol. i think you'll find the results are helpful.
the treatment almost always comes with nearly immediate relief! i have great results in my practice with treatment of a headache. so far, just one patient didn't get better but it's because he was in a motorcycle accident and his pain was anatomical.

With out knowing a WHOLE LOT MORE about you dear- We cannot really suggest that "Anything is wrong" But one thing for sure is this: You have Pain, and pain is a signal that SOMETHING IS NOT RIGHT! So dont feel silly or stupid or intimidated ... I dont think you have meningitis as some may suggest. You would be a whole lot sicker and unable to think straight!! Possible? that you may have slept wrong and I can tell you that whenever i sleep wrong and my neck is out of alignment I do have a headach and sore stiff neck. You may want to just get a heating pad and try to gently massage your neck I am not trying to minimize what may or may not be wrong at all! I just dont want you to PANIC which I thing you may be doing. I would be willing to Offer you some Light stretches that was offered to me from a Physical therapist. They do not involved anything fast or heavy, just enought to keep this neck from being stiff! I would just make a Dr appt instead of stressing over it OK because stress can cause you to keep every thing rigid and we want the "good stress called EUSTRESS and not the bad stress called DISTRESS> The Dr can examine and take an XRAY, and based on the history that you disclose to him can help you better then with the little details that we have of you and what is wrong. Have you been sick? Did you have an injury? - See - it could be one thing if you have been sick and another if you had an injury. Bee good to yourself and call a DR.

To diagnose this 'blind' is similar to asking a blind man to describe a colour. Suffice it to say that it is possible to be the result of many different causes. From a sub arachnoid haemorrhage to a 'mild' tension headache. The most obvious symptom of the former being the immovability of the neck, when the chin can not lower onto the chest, and from the latter when the pain is radiating 'around' the head and neck. If you are able to think of a reason that could produce tension - worry or concern about anything may be the cause. The former could be caused by trauma to head which might have ocurred up to two or three weeks previous to the development of the headache.
In any event, if mild analgesics are having no effect, you would be advised to consult your doctor, if you are unable to relieve the symptoms by yourself
Hope this helps

When you are sitting as your computer there are lots of muscles at work not just your arms and hands. Your lower back if not supported, upper back supported or not, shoulders, and neck are all being taxed. The same muscles when tighter than they should be can put pressure on nerves that cause different levels of pain (including tingling and pins and needles). Sometimes (and it is smart to start here) it is aggravated by a misaligned skeletal structure, which a chiropractor can help with not just alignment but shrinking muscle damage that may exist by using ultrasound. The muscles themselves (due to any number of factors) have knots called trigger points that need to be relaxed. And they can be found as far away from your hands as your lower back. So a next good step is to work with a massage therapist. I would recommend doing this until the pain that you are feeling now and any from reaching the sore hand over onto the opposite shoulder are gone.
Much pain is from muscles below is an example of what may help (based on headaches).
Begin with a couple swigs of molasses or a couple of bananas (natural muscle relaxers) daily - magnesium (which regulates many things in the body) and potassium (a needed building block for muscles).
Drink at least 1/2 gallons of water per day. Running a body low on water is like running a car low on oil is the analogy the head of neurology at UCDavis told my husband about 10 years ago.
Now to the cause - muscles - your back, neck shoulders and head have tender spots. They are knots in the fibers of the muscles called trigger points. It makes the muscles tight which makes them press on nerves and other things causing the pain.
The cure - start with a professional massage, (if this does not do it you probably need a chiropractor as well) you will also want to go back over any place you can get to 6-12 times per session up to 6 times per day rubbing (or lightly scratching on your head) every where that is tender until the knots go away. Press up under the edge of the skull (to get to those muscles).
For more information read The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies. It teaches what to do and where the pain comes from.
