fifth commandment says thou shall not kill, but it does NOT say thou shall not abort babies/fetuses? Arent you christians taking it out of context? Why is it that ive seen christians excuse kill as thou shall not murder, yet they have huge hang ups when non christians take life into thier own hands?

An abortion is the removal or expulsion of an embryo or fetus from the uterus, resulting in or caused by its death. This can occur spontaneously as a miscarriage, or be artificially induced by chemical, surgical or other means. Commonly, "abortion" refers to an induced procedure at any point during pregnancy; medically, it is defined as miscarriage or induced termination before twenty weeks' gestation, which is considered nonviable.

Throughout history, abortion has been induced by various methods. The moral and legal aspects of abortion are subject to intense debate in many parts of the world.

Where do you get that God aborts babies? From miscarriages? Nature made the decision, not the person. That's perfectly alright. It's the same as allowing someone to die naturally.
Abortion IS murder. I believe taking life into our hands like that is WRONG. It's worse than suicide, because one is making the decision for someone else.
Let's leave religion out of the abortion issue COMPLETELY, and look at it from a scientific angle.
By the time a woman knows she is pregnant, the baby:
1. Has a heartbeat.
2. Has organs forming.
3. Has brainwaves.
4. Has his or her own blood type, separate from that of his or her mother.
5. Has his or her own DNA.
6. Is already male or female, even if it can't be seen. It's already decided whether the baby will be a boy or girl.

How can anyone say that it is NOT a life? Even scientifically speaking, it most definitely IS!
Now, don't get me wrong, my view on abortion is that it should stay legal at least in the first trimester until people stop having sex when they don't want children, or until contraceptives are 100% effective.
But it doesn't make it any less wrong, in my opinion. It is a LIFE, and people need to be more responsible when it comes to other lives.

And before anyone can start the whole "you don't know unless you've been there," the first time I got pregnant I was SIXTEEN, and I had already determined that I would NOT have an abortion. Oh, and I wasn't a Christian at the time. I wound up miscarrying in my seventh week, though.

The bible says thou shall not commit murder ...that is different than thou shall not kill. It doesn't say thou shall not kill. But murder has a different definition. But as to the abortion issue, God doesn't abort babies, that is a bodies reaction to unviable tissue as was said above. Our bodies work on their own based on our health, input and output....I won't comment on the abortion issue, because what I believe and what others believe coincide in some instances and don't in others....the results either way will cause conflict. A side note though...whether people make that decision or not, I believe that sometimes NOT having children is as important as having them... I am not agreeing/disagreeing with the abortion issue, but simply stating that certain people shouldn't have children. I am a Christian but don't know whether a person should have a child and then abuse it, starve it, or leave it to fend for itself as best it can because they don't want it, or to rid themselves of it before it gets to that point.

There is an apparent fault with the first question: the assumption that a fetus is not a human life. If you believe that a an "unborn" baby is a human life, then man's aborting or killing one is clearly murder. How do you know that God aborts babies? And if He does, is that not His business? After all, didn't He make them in the first place?

The second question is not clear: taking what out of context? Murder is murder.

The third question unfortunately simply does not make sense as written.

As a Catholic I believe that life begins at the moment of conception, therefore abortion kills a living person (with a soul) - and so is a violation of the fifth: "Thou shalt not kill"

As to the issue of "God aborting babies", I do not believe this is so but I know what your getting at. In answer to this allegation I would say that God has the right to take life since He is the creator of life.

Are you saying that a miscarriage is equivalent to an abortion? Fetuses are considered human. If they have a heart beat then they would be considered to be alive, therefore, if it's alive, then having an abortion, or killing the fetus, would constitute murder. Sometimes Christians don't understand why people don't believe the same things they do. They have the right to their beliefs just like you do.

You just said that the commandment says Thou Shalt not Kill. Are you saying that an unborn child isn't alive?? Obviously he/she is alive, and abortion means killing him/her. Your comment about God aborting babies makes no sense at all. You might as well ask, "how can people say that murder is wrong when God kills people?". That's the whole point! God alone has authority over life and death. Abortion and other forms of murder are wrong because we usurp from God an authority that is not ours, and is rightfully His alone.

Murder is taking a life. The question is when does life begin. The bible says life begins at conception, so abortion is taking a life. Yet God gave us the right to chose to kill, but we pay the consequences. I guess us evil Christians simply value all life. Even those whose life is so painful that they feel suicide is the only way out. Why because we feel if the had an intimate relationship with Christ that they would choose to live.

The fifth commandment does NOT say thou shall not kill children, adults, elderly gentlemen, politicians, lawyers, iguanas...
It just simply states DON'T KILL. (murder)
To take a life, I don't care how small it is, it is still killing. All life belongs to God even if you believe in him or not.
I don't know if you have ever had one (or even if you are a woman) but even to atheists, once they go through with it, can never forget it for as long as they live. Even the most numb ones.

Abortion is murder because you are taking the life of the fetus. That is murder. But it should still be the mother's choice. God Bless America!
