I have a loose wisdom tooth. It really wiggles around but not loose enough for me to pull it out on my own. And I've never been to the dentist. I'm 38 years old and i'm overwhelmed with anxiety. What should I look for when I go in?

You will NOT be able to feel them pull. However, they give you shots that will numb the area. The most painful one is in the roof of your mouth. I would compare it to the sensation of pulling out a nosehair LOL if that makes sense. It's not that painful but your eyes will water.

When I got my wisdom teeth pulled (I was 18 and had all four extracted at once) my dentist gave me some laughing gas first. Then he gave me a few shots around the teeth that were being extracted. It's just a slight pinching sensation, and if the dentist will kind of wiggle a finger next to the needle, you barely feel it at all. After that he put my IV in and that stuff will knock you out.

Try not to worry too much. I hadn't gone to the dentist much until just a couple years ago (I'm now 22). I felt a lot of anxiety at first too. But the dentist is no one to be afraid of. And if you ever feel any pain, just tell them. They'll stop and give you more numbing agents before continuing. I would suggest that you start making regular visits. As you age, your teeth wear down and become more likely to get cavities. Getting your teeth cleaned every 6 months can help prevent a lot of pain later. Best of luck! You'll be fine.

Youve never been to the dentists?! Not once? Not even as a child?

Do not worry about the numbing process. Its painless. Most dentists will smear a substance on a Q-tip. Then put it in the area of where the needle will go in. So all in all there is no pain. After the procedure, he will prescribe some painkillers. There may be some bleeding but thats not always the case. Best of luck. Dont worry youll be fine:)

Hope this helps.

i just had mine done, its so easy. you will look back on this anxiety and laugh, the way dentists are now are alot different than they were back in the day!! if something hurts, i ususally just put my hand up, cuz obviously you cant talk, and they know it hurts so they either re-numb the tooth, or do it differently. but they will numb that bad boy till you cant even feel your tongue!!!! you wont feel a thing dont worry about it if your having anxiety about it, as i did the first time i had a wisdom pulled, my heart rate went up so high that i couldnt leave the dr.s office and then my blood pressure went way outta wack, all cuz of anxiety. so now they know to give me a valium right before the procedure. they just prescribe me one valium and i take it an hour before i go into the dr.s office then i have no trouble at all. all drs will do this as they would rather have you relaxed than have you do what i did so just ask, and with the valium, you dont even care!!!! all the anxiety is gone good luck with that, i know where your at on this one!!!!

Nah...they'll put a cream on your gums to numb your gums..then they'll inject the real stuff. You won't feel the prick, because they have already numbed the surface of your gums. Dentistry is really gentle these days...they make it as painless as possible. If you're that nervous, some dentists do sedation dentistry, where they'll give you something to knock you out pretty good during the procedure so that you won't be aware of anything going on. Express your fears to the dentist and he'll give you your options. It's really not that bad.

Given that's is already loose it should be a piece of cake. Generally wisdom teeth are notoriuos for not coming out but yours is half way there. The shot for numbing feels like a pinch and is minimal in pain. Don't sweat it.

if your dentist is good it'll all be o.k., i personally hate going to the dentist but about a year ago i had to have a wisdom tooth removed and it wasn't too bad. i also hate needles...
my dentist numbed the spot (with some kind of gel on a cottonball) where we was going to give me the novicane shot and i didn't feel a thing. he clamped my tooth and i felt him wiggle it and then he turned around. i asked "is it in there good?" worrying the roots would be long and cause bruising etc. but he said "it's out". never felt a thing, just be calm and it'll all be fine.

Are you having IV sedation?

If you are getting an IV, then everything will be fine and you won't feel anything. Without an IV they will give a numbing shot, which doesn't hurt that bad at all. Don't worry! Since its already loose that means they will have an easier time getting it out, which means less trauma on you mouth. Less pain afterward!!

When they inject your gums with anesthetic, there is a sharp sting from the needle. Can you request your doctor put you under for removal of the tooth? That's what mine did and it was an easy procedure. Relax - it won't be as bad as you're anticipating!

Well, for me, as a kid, it dose hurt when the numboing is on. It's hard to say how it feels, but you realy can't feel your mouth... It's kile having your cheeck being pulled on vary hard, and you can't talk right for about 3 or 4 hours, and It's still jumbled...
