if u read my last question u know i was recently diagnosed. one of the worst symptoms i have though is my throat closing up. it feels closed up pretty much all the time. there is no pain so i know it isn't strep throat or anything like that but i feel like when i eat i'm going to choke on my food. any suggestions on how to get rid of this one particular symptom. i'm skinny enough so i really need to eat but am i doomed to just soft foods until i get better? ty so much everybody who has helped me through this so far. u guys are really great!

You hav eto learn to focus away from the anxiety symptoms. Right now your porbably worried that every time you eat something your throat will close frome your panic. So you are causing it to happen. It's called non-spontanious panic. It's when you trigger it by thinking it will happen. I was diagnosed with panic disorder in May of 1998. Wow, it rough in the beginning, but I've come a long way since then. Don't worry, it gets easier. Are you on meds, and in therapy? I hope so, it helps. Because of therapy, I've been med free for 4 years now. I've learned to manage panic without it. Hang in there.

i read your Arlie comment and yes that can be apart of it. also with anxiety.....you have to Lear the berating exercises to get you threw them when you have one OK.you just sit back and breath out slowly and then take a regular breath in and repeat that for a little while it will get better you,r breathing that is now the swallowing thing i get that alto when i have a anxiety attack it is very scary. but get something cold to drink and it should help ya thew it i promise. but also there is medication you can get put on to help ya out on a Daile basis. because it can get worse and with anxiety you also get stress and stress can kill a person. so Pl check into getting help ask you,r doctor if you can get put on something for anxiety and depression and stress OK. good luck Hun its a miserable thing to live with but after you get started on medication and learn the breathing techniques you should do well OK

I think you really should see a doctor if its that bad It may have nothing to do with anxiety unless your shrink told you it is Gargling with warm salt water might help a little I have a bad throat too Too bad I used to smoke

Valium or xanax benzodiazipine drugs that calms, helps with sleep, relaxes muscles, and best of all treats anxiety . Be careful they can be habit forming as they make you feel good. Antidepressants may also be prescribed for their anti anxiety properties but personally i wouldnt take them, tried em and they mess with your head and they suck, only my opinion. Hope you get better.

I don't know what your diagnosis was or anything , but ...sounds like to me that if you can get soft foods down .... then maybe if and when you eat at any one sitting ...take your time ....chew your food until its masticated completely ...small bites ....lots of chewing .....its actually much better for your digestion system anyway ......good luck
