The story goes like this: God created both angels and human beings with free will. Lucifer had the choice whether to be good and obedient, or to rebel and become a devil; likewise, human beings could have obeyed God or turned to Satan's side.

Even though God knew that some creatures would rebel, He chose to give us free will anyway because freely chosen good is better than being forced to do what God wants.

That is the story. You can choose whether you want to believe it!

Yes you CAN hold your breath waiting for the answer ... LOL.

God did not create the Devil. He created an angel that became the Devil by rebelling against his creator. Even the angels were created with free will, which is why so many chose to follow Satan. Simple as that.

Would you want people to say you CREATED a murder if your daughter, whom you did your best to teach right from wrong, kills someone?

Don't hold your breath waiting for a coherent answer to that one. But DO be prepared for some of the best song-and-dance routines ever to come out of "free will" band - as if that even come closes to question.

The point? Omniscience and free-will don't get along at all. It's like saying that when you see a kid in a position where he will inevitably fall off a cliff, it's OK to say, "Kid, don't fall off the cliff."

But in any case, let the fun begin!

UPDATE: To "Father K" - Even accepting your quibble, "foreknowledge" is quite sufficient to put the relation between free-will and omniscience at about 11 on the absurdity scale - which goes from 1 (quite probable) to 10 (Bugs Bunny for president.)

This question raises because the concept of creation is wrong. God and evil are two sides of a coin. It is something like this. Consider Electricity. It depends how you use it. It burns a light bulb & a body or any valuable thing. Now tell me
whether electricity is divine or evil.

Puppets get really boring after a while, free will makes things much more interesting. (God wins at the end anyways remember.)

GOD wanted His creation to worship or acknowledge Him.

They chose to make idols and icons and worship them or themselves who made them.

Ungodly worship results in sin.

GOD created satan and gave us a choice to worship or not with consequences both ways.
