How do I deal with this embarrassing incident?
My name is Darnell and I am 16 and I was over at my friend Justins house. We both are Juniors in high school. We were playing a game in his basement called " pull down pants " with his sister and her friends. They are 14 and in 8th grade. Anyway, the object of the game was for people to remove each others clothing till everyone was naked except the winner. There were 4 guys and 5 girls. Anyway, the game didnt get far because right away I got ganged up on and they all removed my clothes till I was completely naked. I was a good sport about it in the beginning but I was the only black kid there around 5 white girls and 3 white guys. I didnt look at it as racial till the girls started to wave their pinky finger at me and say " I guess its not true what they say about black boys ". I then grabbed my clothes and left. Did I act like a baby or were these whites being racist?

First of all, it is not a good choice to play such a game. The fact that the game can take place in you friend Justin's house proves that his parents are not very responsible parents.

Second of all, you consider Justin your "friend" I guess you don't usually have problem hang out together. I don't think they are being "racist" on purpose, maybe a bit trashy. I believe they just tease you. You may have had turned the situation around with your humor, or your teasing them back.

I think you did the right thing by putting on your clothes and left.

Depending on how they acted afterwards, (they may have regretted what they did), you can then decide if you want to continue to hang out with them. You may find something to tease them (the girls) back, just to give them a hint. But be careful not to use racial insulting languages.
Good luck.

As a mother, this is the perfect time for me to point out that this is the end result of unwise decisions and hanging out with the wrong people! First, I don't think it is racist from their point of view. Being caucasian myself, I can tell you that white people are woefully ignorant about issues pertaining to the black experience....that is a whole other subject in and of itself! Ithink this was more a case of immaturity and youth mixed with insensitivity....which young people seem to be notorious for. I would perhaps steer clear of "friends" who might put you in a compromising situation in the future. Depending on the situation, the fallout could be severe. As it stands right now, because of a decision to play a "game" you probably are going to be in for a little teasing at school. I would seek out an older male in the black community that you trust (a pastor, perhaps) and ask how to handle this retroactively. Good luck! By the way, I don't at all feel you "acted like a baby"

I would not consider what happened to you as a racist situation. White folks have always been curious about whether black men are better endowed than white men, it becomes a topic of conversation out of curiosity. No...you didn't act like a baby by grabbing your clothes and leaving-anyone in that situation would have done the same. So sugar, advice to you is don't play those games anymore, it could have led to a more serious situation.

Hard to say whether they were being racist or just being typical ignorant (and usually cruel) teenagers. Sounds kind of suspect that you were the only African-American there and they ganged up on you. Whether you felt they were being racist or not, however, you weren't being a baby about leaving. Heck, being naked in front of all of them would be bad enough, but they had to add insult to injury with their comments?!?!! May be time to find some new friends...

Some kids can be so heartless anymore. So sorry that your so called friends done this to u. Hold your head up high and just look at them as idiots.

All I can say about it, is this: That is SO wrong of them!!!! If you all are normally close friends, then I wouldn't think it was anything other than them just ribbing you as a friend, but, if you are not that close with them, then they were sorely out of line and somewhat racist. Acually, in my opinion, I think they were extremely out of line either way you look at it.

It's that kind of crap that starts racism where there wasn't any and so on.

I am so sorry that these idiots treated you this way. But you should rise above it, be better than that, let it go, and move on.

Anyway, you take care, ok?

Bye

I don't see that as being racist at all. They've obviously heard the myth that black men have a big "package". And by seeing you naked, they realized that the myth isn't true. That's all that was. So, I don't think they were being racist, but they were definitely making fun.

Why do I seem to recall questions of a similar nature being posted a few months back. If I look will I find this same question or similar versions posted a few times.

If this even were true you'd be awfully stupid as well as those you were with to be playing this game...sure let's get a bunch of young teenagers together, and get naked. Yeah. smart.

This story is UNBELIEVABLE and if I were you I would tell your parents about it. This is more than sexual harrasment....those kids need a lesson that you can not do something like that....I am not sure if this has something to do with race or not, but just the fact that they ganged up on you to undress you (boys and girls!!!) is very disturbing.
