My fiancee just found out he has tonsil stones. He really dislikes them and he's kind of worried about them. I did some research and found out they're really not dangerous, but I'm curious if anyone has had any success getting rid of them. What worked for you?

There is nothing you can really do about them, they are a build up of particles of food and dead skin cells that get caught in "pits" or "crypts" in the back of your throat. He can try gargling but really there is nothing that can be done to prevent them.

Chronic tonsillitis is a persistent infection of the
tonsils and can cause tiny stone formation.
===========
Tonsil Stones (tonsilloliths) are caused by an accumulation of sulfur-producing bacteria and debris that become lodged in the tonsils. This debris (which can include mucous from post nasal drip) putrifies in the back of your throat, and collects in the tonsil crypts (small divots or pockets which appear on the surface of the tonsils).

When this debris combines with the Volatile Sulfur Compounds produced by the anaerobic bacteria beneath the surface of your tongue, along with the tonsil stones it can also create chronic Halitosis (and other stubborn bad breath and taste disorders).
Important: If you do not have your tonsils then you will NOT (except for rare exceptions) experience tonsil stones.
=============
Different websites suggest different ways of dealing with this problem and they range from deep gargling with warm (to hot) baking soda water, listerine or scope mouthwashes, different gizmos that flush your tonsils to tonsillectomy.

Your general practitioner physician will be able to help her make an informed decision.
