We would ALL be in trouble.
Col 1:16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
Col 1:17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.
- by him all things consist... are sustained. The meaning is, that all things are kept in the present state; their existence, order, and arrangement are continued by his power. If unsupported by him, they would fall into disorder, or sink back to nothing.

Retire from being God? Can't happen. He cannot be anything other than Who and What He is. He cannot change. The idea of change doesn't apply to Him. That's why He can be trusted to perform His Word. He cannot lie because He is Truth.
