What's the reasons for it? They've been too busy doing other things? They haven't found who they liked? I just want to understand some possible scenarios, as I sometimes come across people who make me think "how come they aren't already married or in a relationship?" - in a nice way of course.

Thats a good question, Lilliana. From what I've seen, some of the reasons are as follows.
a) They are too busy trying to get ahead in their career. I did an Engineering degree. Myself, and my mostly male colleagues finished University in their early twenties. Then they spent the next 5 or 6 years trying to get ahead with their careers, and putting some cash in the bank. Most of them married in their late twenties and early thirties, and had kids before 36. When you think about it, this scenario is good, because by that stage, (provided their marriage is solid) they have built a solid foundation for a really good family life. Other acquaintances that I've known that have been less work focused, have tended to settle down earlier in life.
b) They are too shy or afraid of relationships. Something in their past has colored their view of relationships, which is sad. Such people tend to focus on other things to occupy their time. If they don't correct the problem, their dating opportunities diminish as they get older..
c) They are lazy, or not interested (for whatever reasons) in relationships. Not much point in trying to start a relationship with someone like that, as relationships take effort from both sides.
d) They are players. This type of person has no interest in settling down.
e) Too picky, or have not found the right person.
I'm sure there's more, but they're the main ones.

There are many possible scenarios...some have been too focused on their career/education. Some have already been in a long term relationship and needed a breather for a while before getting back into the game. Some may have wanted to live the wild, single carefree life in their 20s and decided at 30 its time to start seriously looking. Some could be just overall shy and not comfortable around women. Some could just be refusing to settle...never settling until they find that 'one' they have been looking for. Again...many many reasons.

There are several reasons that a person at that age may not be in a realtionship.Maybe they had a relationship earlier that really damaged them like they were cheated on maybe they were in a relationship with someone that passed away or maybe they just have too many other thing's going on in thier life that they don't have the time to really contribute to a relationship and then there are people out there that just simply are not interested in having a relationship.

Hi.... I am 41, and single. I ride horses, I sail, snorkel, go camping, go to the theatre, movies, the beach, ect....
And I am single.

Why?????

Even they had found who they like but the person doesn't like them or doesn't want to be with them.
Focusing on their own career.
Taking a break from relationships.
Enjoy the life of being single.
Can't find the person who appreciates them.
