maybe we're not God's only children. Hell, maybe we aren't even his favorites. But i bet no christian ever thought of that.

God is wonderful Creator! He is not a minimalist but does so on grand scales. Imagine how bleak the universe would look on a clear night if we had no stars and galaxies of stars to wonder about. People are amazed by our grand universe and are in awe of it's seemingly limitless dimension.
God never stops creating and creates the most splendid and powerful things that fill our universe.
Even here on Earth he supplied it with countless things of beauty and splendor. God doesn't think of the least he thinks of the most. And humans and angels can delight in the unlimitless power of Jehovah God.
The universe is a giant mechanism that all the laws he created for it run perfectly.

Because God loves abundance and doing things on a massive scale!! And because He can!
Why did He create so many gorgeous fish which live miles down in the sea which are still only being found?
Why did He create billions and billions of grains of sand when we could have done with so much less?
Why does He know exactly how many hairs are on your head (bald or not!!)?
Because He loves you to bits and thinks you are amazing!! x

Well, I'm guessing because humans aren't the only thing in the Universe, so not everything has to serve a purpose for us.
(Obviously I don't know this, but look at the size of it - I very much doubt we are alone here)
Considering we share this planet alone with something like 10,000,000 different species, why should everything need to be for humans?

Because they serve no purpose in our lives does not mean they serve no purpose at all. Think the question is an example of the human conceit to imagine they are the only thing of any importance in the entire universe. Sorry don't mean to sound.....whatever......but always I feel we are but specks in the grand scheme of things.

The Vishnu Purana says that the earth is merely one of
thousands of millions of inhabited worlds like itself
to be found in the universe. Since they are created by
the one Alimighty who is infinite, they all must look
similar. This excludes the possibility of E.T. (extra
terrestial beings with fantastic gears) proposed by
some science finction writers.

and besides they are beautiful to look at and everything was created in balance. Scientists will tell you even a butterfly moving it's wings was created to perfectly balance the universe...

I'm sure they serve a purpose to someone...
You can use these mysteries to wonder about life. Wondering is growing, wondering is learning, wondering is remembering, wondering is creating... Is there purpose in any of that?

No purpose to 'our' lives - why do you think the universe was created for us? We are not the be-all and end-all you know! Your question is a little arrogant don't you think?
