I think eating unhealthy is a big risk when you get older because your metabolism is not the same. You don’t burn off food the same as when you were younger so you have to be more mindful of what you eat. Exercising and eating lots of fruits and vegetables along with the occasional unhealthy food would probably help you allot.

Eating a healthy diet is important at any age, but as we get older due to a slightly slower metabolism it becomes more important to get good nutrition, food is not just about counting calories to stay at a certain weight or to lose weight. Food is the source of proper nutrients to fuel the body tissue and for organ repair and to give the body a strong immune system to fight off diseases.

Food of any type in moderation is okay. If you deprive yourself entirely of something you want, you crave the food even more. Although, half the hurdle of eating healthy is the first couple of weeks. As your body will continue to crave the "carb, fatty foods" like crazy.

If you do eat unhealthy, it somewhat has to do with your genes. If you have family members with Heart Desease or Diabetes; that your more likely to inherit these deseases. Therefore food high in fat contribute to the build up on fat plague in your ateries. If you have diabetes in your family, high carb foods turn into sugar making your body work hard to combat and get rid of the sugar that can cause you the gain weight in your "younger years". When your body gains more weight, it takes more and more insulin to help regulate your sugar level, eventually causing your body to wear out and quit making the amount of insulin you need turning in to diabetes.
