Abreva is a cold sore medication that actually works very well, a few weeks back my seven year old had a really bad cold sore. Four days before picture day! Well the abreva did the trick, just make sure you follow the directions to the tee. It's expensive (about twenty something dollars), but definately worth it.

Why do you ask? Did you find it in your gf/bf's med. cabinet? It is for cold sores and cold sores only. I use it. It is an over counter product and it is expensive. Cold sores are caused by the herpes simplex virus but don't freak out, just 'cause someone has cold sores doesn't mean they have the other kind of herpes. In fact, children even get cold sores. However, it can be very easily spread so don't kiss anyone who looks like they have a cold sore. Also, ask them to tell you when they think they are getting one. They will know because of the tingling and itching around the mouth and some people (like me) get headaches. If they get them frequently, they should be taking a prescription med. like Valtex (not just for sexually transmitted herpes) which lessens outbreaks and the length of outbreaks. Don't pick at them because they will spread all over. I have a horrible case and even get them on my cheeks sometimes. Cold sores can be ugly, painful, and a nuisance. They are no fun. People with the coldsore virus (herpes simplex) should avoid stress and especially the sun. The sun (including tanning beds) is the biggest trigger so make sure you or whoever gets them, covers their face with a hat of a sunblock with a high SPF. Hope I helped with the info. Only cold sores. You put it on when it starts to form and it eases the pain and makes it heal faster.
