What kind of Mastiff do you own? How many do you own? What color are they? How big are they? How old are they? What is their name?
I have 1 English Mastiff he is 4 months old he weighs 47 lbs and is about as tall as a Lab. He is a fawn color and his name is Zues.
I had a Bull Mastiff/German Shepard Mix pass away about 3 weeks ago. He was the best dog ever. He was a little over 10 when he died. His name was Rosco and he was about 90 lbs. He was also a fawn color. He was a little taller than a male German Shepherd.
I love this breed don't you?

Not sure why a gentle giant would have a bad attitude unless it was not properly raised or socialized. Does not make in sense to me.
I adopted my Bull Mastiff mix from a shelter at 6 months old. He was a grand dog.

Our family includes two brindle colored English Mastiffs (Annie and Thor) from Mastiff Rescue, and Teddy Bear a fawn male from the local SPCA. All of the dogs are small for Mastiffs, the brindles because brindles tend to be smaller, and the fawn because he was severely abused and starved in his previous life.
Teddy gained 50 pounds in the first two months that we had him. When we got him from the SPCA he was a large head on a skeleton. Annie used to be a therapy dog at the Mastiff Rescue, so she helped him progress from, barely being able to stand, to being much more healthy.
The main points to understand about Mastiffs is that you should never for any reason hit them. Motivation should be food and love. Punishment should be a firm no, shaking their jowls, or gently holding their nose. If the dog will not sit on command, gently hold his nose. If the dog will not come when called, give the command "move" and if the dog does not immediately respond, then go over and place your hand gently on his butt and gently goose step him to where he was told to go. Teaching the command "move" is very useful, but you must only give it once before you follow up with the reinforcement, never repeat yourself. If you watch a group of Mastiffs, you will learn that they never bite or hurt each other, but they shake jowels, growl, and do annoying things to each other to get what they want. Holding their noses gently, and gently goose stepping them are good annoying things that they will understand and obey.
Also, above all.... Never Never let a child ride a Mastiff. Each year Mastiff Rescue puts down many many dogs because people let their children ride their Mastiffs. That destroys the dog's hind joints, leaving the dog severely and painfully crippled and is a dog's death sentence. Mastiffs, especially puppy Mastiffs have very very delicate joints.
Be kind to your Mastiff. Keep in touch with someone knowledgeable about the breed. Often male Mastiffs will challenge their owners for dominance between the ages of eight months and 14 months. Don't take the challenges and threats seriously, they are bluffing. Just wrap your hand so your palm is against their nose, and your fingers are gently pressing their lips against their teeth, and growl the word "no", they find that very annoying. Once you know Mastiffs, their bluffing is really funny, because it is a bluff and when the bluff is handled properly, it is really hilarious. On the other hand, dogs hit at that stage can become agressive and crazy, so never hit them.

WOW!!!!! look at my 360... I have a shep/mastiff mix, Savanah!! she is about 1 1/2 years old...and about 75+ pounds......what a joy she is...a great mix... I adopted her at a rescue in MD here where I live... she was the last of a litter of 9 and she was the timid one.... she loves kids but not sure why is a little timid about unknow adults... I have had her since she was 8 weeks old and she was socialized... I think since her mother(Shep mix) ran the streets of Baltimore and was found hooked up with a purebred English mastiff, she went thru alot... then the owner of the mastiff found a neighbor that took her in and waited for the pups to be born...and kept her, got her spayed, and took the most of the pups to a no kill shelter, which is where I got her.. I actually have pics of a reuniting of 2 of her siblings...which I found by accident...how cool was that... she had a great time playing with her brother and sister!! My family loves her dearly and would give her up for nothing!!!smile
I would recomend adopting any pup/adult with these mixes!!!

well I don't have one right now, but I did...He was a bull mastiff, his name was Blaze.. He was huge! If he put his paws on my shoulders he was taller then me and I am 5'6. I ended up finding him a new home he was 1 1/2 years old...He didn't like children...We have 3...I think the Mastiff is a beautiful dog..But some have very bad tempers, and mine did...He now lives on a farm, and is enjoying life...
