I've had allergy testing twice. Each time it was done by micro-small prick on the back, dotting with a suspected allergan at a very low dosage, rows were done on back and arms. After waiting for 20 minutes, if no reaction was noted, the dosage was increased to the next level. It was painless, except for a little itching at sites of things I was allergic to. Recommend taking a good book, because it will take at least an hour.

First, you talk to the doctor about the allergies in a room
and then he has blood taken from your arm which is sent to a lab and in about a week the test comes back and tells
you everything you are allergic to.
And then, you can get allergy shots or just avoid what you
are allergic to
The allergy shots may make you sick and you may want to stop them .
They shoot you with a mixture of all the stuff you are allergic
to , to get your body immune to what you are allergic to.
Your best bet is just use benedryl and avoid stuff you
are allergic to.

It depends on the practitioner. My Mom used to get needle injections just under the skin for various allergens (wheat, grass, sugar, lactose, corn, etc.) and then her Dr. would wait about 10-20 minutes to gauge her reaction. Then they give you the "ante dote" to reverse the allergic reaction (if you need it). Or, sometimes in homeopathy or kinesiology, the practitioner will have you hold a vial of a known allergen and muscle test your tolerance levels.

The "scratch test" where they basically scratch you with a number of allergens on your arm or back and see which ones you react to if they redden or bump up. just like when a cat scratches you and it gets red and swollen a little. No big deal, just DON"T SCRATCH!
