No they did not lie. Those weapons were found on several occasions and in several places. Not as many were found as expected, but the evidence of previous large caches indicate that they were there. You won't hear about that on the main stream news media. The news media is driven by ratings (which translates into profit). Bad news always draws more ratings than good news.
Don't forget that after Saddam kicked all the inspectors out, he still had quite a long time to seclude or smuggle those weapons away to other countries that were sympathetic to his cause.
There is good reason why so many people claimed that he had those weapons. Because at one time he did. He proudly boasted and displayed them.
The weapons inspectors saw them and ordered their destruction. Saddam refused and then booted the inspectors out. Is it any wonder that every intelligence service on the planet was sure that he had them still?
During the cease fire (the interval between the Gulf War and the resumption of hostilities in Iraq) Saddam made no efforts to comply with the terms of the cease fire. So technically, the present war in Iraq is a continuance of the Gulf War. During that interval, though, he managed to sneak his dirtiest weaponry out of the country and into friendly hands. No doubt, he expected to be ousted and to make good his escape to exile where he could continue his crusade against the west.

You should post your question in politics, not military. Let me ask you this, could normal things, like uh airplanes, be used as weapons of mass destruction? I believe there are weapons that were hidden, moved and rehidden, over there and most are still there. Do you want us to withdraw and leave the world to find they do exist by having the terrorists use them? I would rather err on the side of caution. Here is something else for you to ponder. Look at the Presidents from the past that were in "power" when we went to war. Aren't there as many questions about entering the wars back then as there are now? The only difference today is we all have access to the internet. War is always blamed on the President. GET OVER IT!

You appear to be getting the normal junk/chatter from answerers.
Saddam's government had plenty of time to move the WMDs. Remember during the Gulf war, he sent his aircraft to Iran to prevent them from being destroyed. He sent the WMD's both to Syria and to Iran. Had more than enough time. Also the desert in Iraq is a large expanse of desolate area. Some of those weapons are most likely buried somewhere out there. No, the American Gov. did not lie. One thing people should be aware of. Our intelligence gathering community was focused on the USSR and Red China during the cold war. The community collapsed with the collapse of the USSR. It still has not regained its' footing. This war with Islam is something it has never faced. Guess and innuendos were its main stay in giving reports to the President. Clinton cut so much cost out of the Mil. they couldn't place intelligence gathering devices/people where they were needed.

The weapons of mass destruction were found, mustard gas is a horrible way to go (dry land drowning; it is a blister agent that blinds you if it touches the eyes and will blister your lungs causing bleeding and eventually drowning in your own blood).

It is estimated that Saddam killed over 150,000 Kurds and Iranians with chemical weapons (this is by the World Health Organization, who was the first to "proove" the Baath party was using them by collecting soil samples at the sites).

Saddam had plenty of warning that invasion was imminate and I will take an education wild guess that any weapons that were in hiding were sold on the black market via Syria.

Everyone seems to be so locked on this issues of "where are the weapons?" I ask "How long were we planning on containing a mad man?". It is not the presence of the weapons, as most of the world has WMDs in their arsenal, it is the propensity of using those weapons that scares me. If Saddam thought that anyone was a threat to him, he would not hesitate to toss some chemical warheads at them (even, or particularly, his own citizens).

So, did the Government lie. No - 100,000 dead people in mass graves can be wrong. Did we act too late? Yes - half of those people were killed after Desert Storm and after the "no-fly zones" implemented.

Here is another question: When did we invade Iraq the last time? 2003? NO - We never left after Desert Storm, we were just flying overhead instead of on the ground.

So, for all those liberals out there screaming "We shouldn't be in Iraq!!"...I would like to remind them that we were, in fact, in Iraq during the entire Clinton administration. We just didn't get anything done other than contain a madman for 8 years, during which he used WMD against the Kurds.

The WMD are still hiding in 100's of miles, of dust, sand, and desert in Iraq. It took America, even with a satellite, about 8 years to find, and release photographs of the mass graves of innocent Iraq peoples murdered by Saddam Hussein. Give it more time, and a large cache will be found. Hussein didn't want the inspector's in Iraq, why? To hide wmd.
The American government didn't lie. It is already known that Saddam had anthrax, which was found. As I said, it's a desert, and takes time to find something hidden well, in a desert.

Just ask the Kurds if the US lied about Saddam having chemical weapons. Next time post this unoriginal question in the politics section with the other idiots, lunatics, and conspiracy theorists.

Why do you people keep trying to rewrite history. It was the consensus of ALL the intelligence agencies all around the world that concluded Sadam had WMD. Then for 18 months leading up to the war, Sadam had time to move them to Syria, bury them in the sand etc.
Get past your blind hatred of the Pres, and start looking at the fact. Quit regurgitating to the liberal talking points like a parrot!

All chemical weapons we recovered in Iraq were flown to Johnson Island and destroyed.

And for everybody who claims that no chemical weapons were found - I saw a couple of them.

It is amusing how many Bush-haters give 'thumbs down' to eyewitnesses. Shows us just how blinded they are by ideology.
