Pig...everyone knows you shouldn't double dip at parties or social gathering.....you may as well used your finger.

Sometimes at social events, especially at funerals, the stress may be too tough that double dips occur on accident. If you double dipped, just let bygones be bygones. If someone is offensed and complains about it, that complaint is a bigger faux pas.

Cassie, I avoid doing the double dipping thing by simply making sure I get a good coat on my finger tips. That way the second bite is predipped.
People think it disgusting, but one can always claim nearsightedness and depth perception problems caused the mistake.

I doubt anyone will be too worried about it. I don't generally notice unless someone is a very messy eater or little kids do it who tend to drool over their food; after all most people I know break chips more than that they put them into their mouth and then take them out. So it's not like there's globs of spit gonna be in the bowl.

The people will think they don't want to eat out of that dip!!! I often break my chip in half & then dip each piece seperately. If the chip is large .... you can dip one end, bite then turn it over and dip the other end. BTW......I never order salsa in a resaurant. It's been shown to have 10% human saliva in it!!!

Terrible, terrible faux pas... what will the people do next time- hang you by your nuts/overies! [kidding]

Actually, if you're young, it's simply frowned upon and you'll be correcte by someone: if your a young adult and older, and you do it, people will be less charitable. Expect to be embarraaed!
