Why are some parents today ruining things for young children at school? So far young kids today can't have any holiday without SOMEONE getting offended! It is really starting to tick me off....now Easter Bunny is Spring Bunny?! No more Valentine's, Christmas, Haunaka, Kwanza, Thanksgiving, or Halloween.....and now I heard one school in Massachusetts last year could not make Mother's and Father's Day cards in Kindergarten because some families might get offended!??

This has to end!!!! Genrations of kids have celebrated all of these in school and nobody was offended before, nobody was scarred for life...what happened to teaching children diversity? What does everyone else think??

I don't have kids yet, and it's not about the parties...it's just the fact that no holiday can now be mentioned in schools for fear of "offending someone." My school celebrated everything...and my generation wasn't messed up OR had lack of learning because of it.

I know its ridiculus isnt it. I've even hear of some schools changing the words to nursery rhymes so they arent offensive!!!! How and when have nursery rhymes ever been offensive. At christmas now Santa is banned and we are moving away from Christmas cards to Seasons Greeting cards. So no-one is offended. Thsi is in the whole of society not just in schools. Which makes me sick. If someone doesnt beleive in christmas or whatever they do not celebrate it, but you cant deny everyone else from celebrating.
This political correctness thing has gone waaaaaaaay to far. In Australia they have changed the name of the fairy penguin to the little penguin. How stupid is that. No-one was offended by fairy penguins. Its just gone crazy.
Its just soooooo stupid.
At the school my daughter attends they work alot on learing about diversity. And she is only in Year 1. It's great as she comes home with all this information and excitement about how things are done differently in different places. Its great and gives kids a better understanding about the world and life. It's also great as all the kids in her school are from many different cultures and so everyone gets to learn bits and pieces of everyone else's culture. So no-one is alienated and they can share and relate to each other.

How is it teaching diversity to have the Easter Bunny in the school? How does Valentine's Day teach diversity? Or Kwanzaa?

The school celebrating a day doesn't teach much about that day other than the most superficial actions people go through. If the schools wanted to teach diversity by celebrating holidays the schedule would be packed so full of party days that kids wouldn't be getting any other learning done. And parents would be flummoxed trying to find costumes and dishes to make from around the world. And they'd be pissed because most celebrations have a religious component that's different than theirs.

If you have a problem with your child not getting to celebrate these holidays get with your friends and family and make your own party.

Remember, the emotions you are feeling about not having these celebrations in the school are just the same as the ones anyone in the minority was feeling about having the celebrations in the school. Don't worry, you won't be scarred for life by it.

I live in Massachusetts and I didn't hear that at my children's school. I do agree that people are taking the tradition out of holidays that we grew up with and that made us fine human beings, I don't think calling him the spring bunny is going to change anything, I think it is stupid and there is no reason to do so, the Easter bunny may have a Christian holiday in the name, but seriously a bunny has nothing to do with the Easter holiday at all, talking about the Easter bunny in school is by no means mixing religion with school.

I think your right the schools are taking it too far with the holidays. In NY an eleimatary school kids can no longer go on an halloween peraid. THis was started last year. When I went to school I loved the halloween peraids and partys! Its not frair to are kids!

I'm with you on that. I have 4 kids and we live in a small town. I think it's sad that the world today is so messed up. More power to ya.

I think we should respect EVERYONE'S religious beliefs, but Christians seem to keep getting shafted. In my opinion, that's why the love of Christ should speak louder than any attempts to silence what is "officially" allowed in public forums.

As for the Easter Bunny, check out my tribute below. :-)

It's ridiculous.

Now we have 'winter break' instead of Christmas holidays. It's crazy.

I don't care who gets offended- that's on them.
