My roommates cat has recently been spayed. My concern is, its almost been a week already, but the wound looks as if its puss'ing a little, with a tint of red.

(Is this normal?)

The cat has been rather active, however the stitches are still in, and I have given her all her medication. (1 syringe of .25cc's of metacam for 4 days.[orally])

(Im not really sure what metacam is, and my roommate doesn't know how to ask questions.)

(She is really active)

For one, Its not MY cat.

It is my Roomates cat. The cat has been in heat for a month already.
HOWEVER
Its taken me protesting every date for him to get her fixed. I am the one that gives her her meds, I am the one watching the wound everyday. Making sure she is NOT licking herself.

I honestly have a love-hate relationship when it comes to animals, However my now ex fiancee, was becomming a vet while we were dating. Now I have a softspot ::sigh::

I would contact the vet. Since the stitches should be coming out in 10 days after surgery and it still looks red and pussing, it could be infected.

Metacam isn't an antibiotic, it's for pain management. The vet should have given you an antibiotic to be on for at least the 10 days (amoxicillian more than likely).

When are the stitches coming out? If it's within the next day, then the vet should see that there's a problem. If it's not until next week, I would call them today to get the cat in to be seen.

By 10 days, it should be pretty well healed, that's why the stitches can come out. They may need to leave these in a little longer if there's a problem.

Good Luck

Oh and spayed is for female Matt b, so there's no dick to shoot off, FYI.

The cat should be pretty well healed in 2 weeks, however, I'd be concerned about the tint of red and pus. I had a cat who was spayed the the incision got infected, it was a mess. It might be wise to get the cat back to the vet for a check or call the vet to see what they advise.

Hello,
Male or Female ? It makes a difference females take longer due to internal surgery and should be watched use only newspaper for a couple of weeks, this helps from anything entering the surgical area. Males well much easier its outside surgery and tend to do so much better. Most important look for swelling and dis colorization. The red should leave but check with the vet if it gets worse.

cats may itch or chew at he stitches, so thats why the red/blood. 2 weeks max for the stitches to go away.
Keep an eye on it, and if it looks infected to you, call the vet and let him know. The vet will (if a good vet) let you know if things are normal, and if not, the vet will tell you to bring the cat in Today if things dont seem right.

It sounds normal to me, but for sure I think you should call the vet. It would bring you a peace of mind about it. Aren't you have to take it back to take the stitches off soon anyway? You can ask the doctor then. That was nice for you to concern about and taking a great care of your roommate cat.

Depends on the activity level , general health of you cat. My two cats were quick healers with the wounds looking healed within a week. My friend's cat was abit longer cuz it was an older cat who would not leave the wound alone.....licking it constantly..needed one of the funky fashionable cone things around it's neck for a few days to give the wound a head start...good luck

The stitches should be removed after 10 days. It should look better once they are removed. If it still looks infected take her back to the vet.

it takes about 2 weeks sometimes. Has she been licking it? Maybe getting an elizabethan collar put on will help. Other that that, take her back to the vet and get it checked if you are still worried.
