All 9 mm listed utilize the same projectile of .355 diameter, case length, rim design and powder charge as in power being the main differences.

Q: What's the difference between 9mm Luger and 9mm parabellam ammunition? A: The 9mm Luger is named after the inventor of the Luger pistol and Parabelleum is Latin meaning: 'For war' (as in: "If you want peace, prepare for war." Both are 9x19mm rounds which will chamber and fire in any 9x19mm weapon. State-side the 9x19mm is just referred to as a 9mm. The 9mm Luger and the 9mm Parabelleum are the same but different than other 9mm rounds such as: The 9x18mm; 9x17mm (sometimes known as .380 acp, or .380 Auto, or 9mm Corto or 9mm Kurz). These are not intended for nor can they safely be fired out of any other 9mm designated by a different numeration or name. The words Corto and Kurz both mean 'short' in Spanish and in German. In the USA the 9x17mm (Corto or Kurz), is known as the .380 Auto or .380 acp. H

In the USA when someone says, ".9mm" he means one of the following: .9x19mm, .9mm Luger and .9mm Parabellum. These are all the same cartridge and will work in the .9x19mm pistol.

Occasionally someone will become confused when they see a foreign auto loader stamped: ..9mm Corto/.380 acp or even: .9mm Kurtz/.380 acp. The 'corto or kurtz' merely means short in Spanish and German. These do NOT shoot both the full size .9x19mm and the .380 acp. When you see that it really is a .380 acp rather than a .9x19mm; the other designations, too numerous to list but see D-58's list, merely mean that it is NOT to be confused with the .9x19mm, which is pretty much the standard .9mm.

Best.

9mm is the outside of the butllet . 9mm and 9mm Luger are the same round most of the time but be careful. it could be 9mm x 17 .380 acp , 9mmx18 9mm makarov, 9x19mm , 9x18 police,9x21mm and or 9x64mm an older riflie round.

In the US, 9mm luger is the same as 9mm parabellum. The 9mm kurtz is the same as the .380 ACP

In the US, the 9mm Luger, or 9x19 Parabellum, is by far the most popular of the various 9mm pistol cartridges, and we Americans love to shorten things whenever we can. But there are plenty of others, so if you have a 9mm cartridge, you'd best check the headstamp before you try loadin it in your pistol.

9MM LUGER is NOT a straight-walled cartridge. It is a tapered one. The shorter 9mm (.380/9mm makarov) are straight-walled.

UPDATE: Check out the links below and see the difference between the 9mm luger(9x19mm) casing (tapered) and the .380ACP(9x17mm) casing (straight).
