I'm having a party to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. I've hired a 50s-60s band to perform and I want to make the party as much with that theme as possible. We're serving soda shop food and I'm looking for fun decorating ideas as well as anything else to add to the theme.

Make the servers wear old fashioned roller skates! Use a projection TV to cast the movie "Grease!" on the wall of the party hall during the party. Soundlessly of course, but it will create a great backdrop and stimulate conversation.

Something that I did for my mother's 50 birthday was make like alist if things from that time and compare it t today.

My list read things like back when me and my wife got married coffe was 13 cents- a home cost 2,500-you could get 12 dozen eggs for 50 cent etc.

hope this helps just find some cool things that you and your wife were into and add them to the list. Your favoirte song the style that you and her wore.

Go down to the thrift store and buy up all the 45's funky scarves and vintage dishes you can find. They will be cheap. You can add anything that's period correct to your decor and it will look even better. Maybe get out the old mono record player and spin some vinyl, daddy-o

Sure. Try a "Cold War" theme. Everybody dresses up as their favorite politician of the era, and you decorate your party site to look like a Russian "War Room", with maps of potential 'targets' and photos of Russian nukes. Serve vodka. Hours of Fun!

Remember the old school potluck dinners? We once had everyone bring the potluck passing dish they hated most as a kid. It was great fun as it turned out that pretty much every "most-hated" dish for one was the "most-loved" dish by someone else. Fruit in Jello mold anyone?

I think what they have been saying is good! And you should have like 50's-60's dancing! And get some cool lights.
