I agree that this is so confusing! He is mixed up and doesn't know what he really thinks. Maybe he was trying you out that night to see how far things could go!! Teenage guys are turned-on all the time whether they want to be or not. Survival of the Fittest and the human need to reproduce is strong and so are his hormones.

Why don't you give up on him. He is too unpredictable and it will keep you confused. There are lots of other guys. Find one you like that likes you back without all the confusion and going through friends for information. This just sounds like a dry hole to me. I would want a guy that could come right out and be there with me. You deserve that too.

Maybe he was disappointed because he didn't get anywhere with you the other night. It's possible that he was hoping to go further than just a hug and it upset him. Regardless of what it is you shouldn't blame urself for how he's acting right now.

Something like this actually happened to me and my absolutely best friend. He was one year older than me and my neighbor from the time that I was two. We stopped hanging out for like two years when he was 14and I was 13 and then we started to be friends again. Then one night, something wicked similar to what you said happened... and then he stopped talking to me for like two weeks and avoiding me and everything. He eventually said that it was because he was scared of hurting me and losing me as a friend. He felt like he was falling in love with me, and he was scared. I was 15 when that happened... and I'm 18 now and we're still going out and very in love.. :-) Make him talk to you!

WARNING: THIS IS A 12 YR OLD!
it depends wat kind of person he is. if he does that 2 every1 that it is nothing 2 worry about and that is just his way of telling u that u r his friend. if he is only doing that 2 then it is a possibility that he likes u, but he does not kno how 2 tell u or he does not kno that he likes u. u should ask him straight up ur self and see his reaction. if he reacts like he is trying 2 hide it, he likes u.
3 stages of likeing some1
1. rejection
2. frustration/anger
3.acceptance

why don't you just ask him? maybe he just wants to be friends, but he knows that because of the night he stayed at your house, you are going to try to make more out of it. go and talk to him instead of listening to second hand info. that some one else gets for you.
