I've noticed it I mention something about my chosen religion and name the religion, I get at least one thumbs down, usually more. However if I mention something about my religion but don't name my chosen religion, I don't get a thumbs down.
What gives? Is it my answer or my religion they are booing.

BTW, I'm Mormon. Yes, yes, I know, I've been decieved, you disagree with my beliefs, blah blah blah. But often times, unless I mention I'm Mormon, people will agree with my answer, but the moment I mention I'm Mormon - thumbs down.

Kjelstad, I thought of letting y'all guess, but thought I'd probably wind up being asked anyway.
Thanks for those who don't thumbs down just because of anothers religion.

It's of the Lubbock, TX temple. :) Thanks.

Thanks for your testimony Arthur. It's not really the type of answer I was looking for, but I appreciate it.
It also illustrated my point pretty clearly. Dollars to donuts it was Mormons who gave it thumbs up and non-Mormons who gave it thumbs down.

Now, on to a Best Answer award.

Oh I know it is so annoying!!! It's totally the religion though. Trust me- you give good answers usually.

I get the same thing.

Actually the Mormon religion make more sense the Christianity. At least it deals with reality. The more I learn about it the more it makes sense with all the other information in the world. I just don't like religiosity of anything. Just my preference mates.

Yes some will give you a thumbs down because of your religion while will because they don't like your answers because of your religion. Either way your religion is being attacked. By the way the Mormon religion as the same history as any other religion. Over time the changes made will be hidden or destroyed just like any other religion. This is the pot calling the kettle black.

I've noticed that Mormons take a lot of bashing on here. As do Christians, atheists, Muslims, agnostics. I think some people who are of a different religion automatically click the thumbs down if the answerer's religion is known. Same ones report abuse too.

Prejudice, showing that they don't agree with your beliefs. Its petty, you are correct in your assessment. I am an atheist. If I leave that out I am more apt to get a thumbs up or no thumbs. Its just people voting that they agree or disagree with your beliefs. It doesn't necessarily reflect on the quality of your answer. I ignore the thumbs up and down ratings, especially in the R&S section. It can be a postive thing though, it makes you more aware of biases and how unfair they may be toward others and how they may close your mind to other's thoughts.

I'm LDS as well, and I've noticed that as well, especially with the presidential election, and Mitt Romney as a Republican candidate. Most people hate and fear what they don't understand, and that's why they hate and bash us for our beliefs. I think that's a little odd, as I'm sure they wouldn't react kindly to others ridiculing them for what they believe. Don't let it discourage you. If anything, see it as an opportunity to strengthen your testimony. Know that you are "a light to the nations" by being an example to others. These are the last days, and if anything, people will treat us with more scorn than before. But you're not alone, either. There are many of us who know exactly what you are going through, and so does your Heavenly Father. Whatever the case may be.

I'm a LDS as well =). A lot of people just do not like our beliefs. It is funny, in other forums if I talk about religion and not state that I am a LDS most of the Christians also agree with me. The moment I mention I am a Mormon a few of them get quite rude.

Aw, I was going to guess Mormon too. You really should have let us guess. I know Christians are totally intolerant of JW and LDS but I was sure your pic was a temple.

As an atheist I think you are just as nutty as the christians, but a lot nicer. You won't get thumbed for that by me.

I totally agree. By the way, I love your avatar!! What temple is it? It's a pretty one!! Anyways, on with your question. I have had the same thing happen to me, many times. I think people get things pounded into them about us LDS people that aren't true, and instead of finding out for themselves if maybe there may be a thread of truth to what they hear, they just accept it as fact. I asked a question about why we are looked down on so much, and what did I get? A bunch of people telling me I'm going to hell because I haven't been "saved" and I don't believe in Christ!! If you aren't willing to do the research for yourselves, don't make statements about what I believe. If you are unwilling to learn about something for yourself, and ask God if it might be true, then you shouldn't say things about us. Sorry, I know that may sound mean to some, but you aren't my judge, jury and executioner.

I just wish people would take the time to do some research and learn things that are *REALLY* put out by the church or members, so they can learn for themselves.

Probably for the same reason that anyone who is believes in evolution is being "thumbs-downed" by a sub-set of people who don't believe in evolution. We are assumed to be anti-God, just because we also believe in scientific evidence.

Because a lot of people don't realize freedom of religion means freedom of all religions not just theirs. I don't mention mine because most people think that it makes me evil because they don't know what it is truly about. By the way my religion is Wicca and my husbands church reads the book of Mormon.

Well whatever dude don't get so upset. Everyone of us gets our fair share of thumbs downs ... it's alright. Don't be so sensative about it. It's an opinionated discussion you are in. All is fair in Religion and Politics. You gotta get some back bone!
