As a vegetarian yes I am aware of this study. Pretty interesting huh?
No, it is not why I do not eat meat. I believe it is ethically wrong, and that is why I am making the transition to a vegan lifestyle, not just diet.
No, I do not feel hungry all the time. All the fiber from the yummy veggies, whole grains and fruits keep me quite full.
Yes, Vegetarians can get fat. There are plenty of things that are loaded with calories and terrible for you that don't have animal products with them. Lacto-vegetarians are even more prone, as many replace all meat items with cheese. Cheese being generally high in calories in the number of servings people eat. I know the dairy is what was keeping me heavier than I have liked. Now that I have ditched dairy, I am slowly moving down the scale!

Not only vegetarians are aware of that if you consider the huge number of people being on diets and being obese. Surprisingly, the number of fat vegetarians is lower than of those people eating meat, but lets be fair and assume, that they are generally more careful about what they eat and how they eat. I don't eat meat because it disgusts me, I am hungry when everybody else is hungry and although everybody can get fat on a wrong diet, I still have the same body I had when I was 14 (and that is 36 years ago)
And to this gentleman who stated so wisely that "Humans don't have 4 stomachs like a cow; they don't have the intestinal flora to handle plants like grass.", thanks a lot. I had no idea and will have to stop eating grass on the meadow from now on. Maybe I'll switch to potatoes, rice, noodles, toast, puddings, stir-fries, chocolate, cakes, steamed vegetables and ice cream?? What on earth do you think people eat??? Herbs, moss and leaves???

Vegetarians are not all thin nor do they all have a reduced calorie diet. Some studies in rats have suggested that a severely reduced calorie diet can prolong their lives. Based on this, some people have gone on low caloric intake diets (less than 900 calories per day) in an attempt to live longer. Check back in 75 years or so to see how they've done with that.

There was some research that was presented last month on PBS's series NOVA. They said that if you reduced a mice's caloric intake by 3/4 then they would live longer. Few humans would be willing to stick to that diet, except for the poor in the 3rd world who would have no choice.
As an omnivore I think that it is foolish to not eat meat, our bodies, even our teeth were designed to handle it and to get more benefit from it. The reason why a lot of vegetarians lose weight is because their diet doesn't give them a lot of calories that their body can digest.
Humans don't have 4 stomachs like a cow; they don't have the intestinal flora to handle plants like grass. Celery is a negative calorie food; the human body uses more calories trying to digest the celery than it gets from it.
Of course being a vegetarian is a valid life style, and since they get lower calories from the food they eat they can eat a lot, and get full stomachs, without any problems.
Vegans are almost religious in their eating style. I have seen Vegans argue about facts I learned in grade school, like our canine teeth are meant for tearing meat. So to any Vegans out there I am not trying to insult you, I am merely trying to state some facts. If I am wrong about canine teeth then try and find a herbivore that has them.

Reducing your calorie intake slows your metabolism. It also frees up your pancreas to create more metabolic enzymes vs digestive enzymes.
