ok, I have had bronchitis for about 3 weeks now. This is the second time this season to get it. The first time, dr gave me z-pak and some great syrup that knocked me out. This time I didnt go back to the dr right away because I knew it was bronchitis again. I was getting better until i woke up the other day feeling like a truck hit me. I went back to the dr, he said I again have bronchitis and gave me another z-pak with some lame-O syrup. But along with my bronchitis inflamed lungs, I've had fever for 2 days and sore throat for day 3 (no puss pockets) achey, chills, stuffy nose, so I'm pretty sure I have the flu now to go along with my bronchitis. My question- should i take the z-pac again? I dont want to become resistant and what if its viral bronchitis and not bacterial?

You don't have bronchitis this time; you most likely have the flu, which is viral. Even if you were to have bacterial bronchitis again, I would advise against zithromycin for you (z-pac); you've used it too recently and it clearly isn't working. Rest, fluids, and Nyquil for you!

I'd be going to a different doctor and finding out why you're so susceptible to respiratory infections. And get a flu shot in early fall, if possible.

Signs of bacterial infection include: sudden onset, specific areas of complaint, high fevers (us. >101 degrees Farenheit.)

Signs of viral infection include: generally more gradual onset, general complaints (whole body hurts, multiple areas affected - upper respiratory, lower respiratory, head, muscles and joints), and low fevers (<101 degrees Farenheit, though things like flu can run much higher.)

I had (have, still coughing a little) bronchitis 4 weeks ago and the doc told me that 90% of bronchitis is viral. Do you smoke? More likely that it's recurred if you do. What color are you coughing up? If it's clear or white, probably viral. Green or yellow, probably bacterial. If fever is high...102 or above...it's more likely bacterial. I'm getting this out of a medical book. With me, I never got the script filled because I just knew it was viral. I think docs are covering their ***es when they give us antibiotics for bronchitis. And it takes a long time to get over it as cellular replacement is about 21 days. Fluids, sleep, rest.....and watch your phlegm and temperature, that's what *I* would do before taking any more antibiotics, especially a Z-pak because it's a high-spectrum potent med and you don't want to *use it up* just in case you really need it for something more serious and whoops, developed an allergy to it.

Evidently the z pack don't KO the bronchitis bug. Kind of politely ask for a different med, but be insistant. The Dr. can check and see if the bronchitis is gone. Hopefully it is and all that is left is the flu. Best of luck, lots of chicken soup and take care of your self.

So certain limitations within the boundaries of bronchitis can be limited and yet can have a direct effect into human mentality. So how can we define bronchitis??? That is the question that we have to implicate on and thus a person actually can realise the truth of being in the middle of something that they don’t even know like numbness.

Make strong mullein leaf tea (linden blossom tea is good too but mullein will get the snot out). Drink hot and when you start coughing up be sure to spit out all the mucus. Uva Ursi tea will kill bacteria and virus but do not take that for more than a week. Given all the stuff you have taken already...stay away from the Uva-Ursi for now.

If you smoke, do not smoke cigarettes. If you must smoke get natural leaf tobacco or even better smoke only cannibus.

Anti-biotics kill good bacteria with the bad...and they seem to make the bad come back stronger. Take pro-biotics.

The docs will manage your sickness forever....heal yourself!

Maybe you should talk to a different doctor. When I doubt my doctor I go to one of those walk-in clinics and see what the doctor there has to say. Maybe you should try pumping up your immune system. Have you ever tried Zicam? I think it works well. I used it the last time I got sick and I got over it quick. I don't like anti-biotics myself. I'd rather let my immune system do what it is intended to do.

Yes, take it again, and if you don't get well after taking the whole dosage, go back and explain to your doctor that you don't think the z-pack helped...Good luck.

some medictions work on people, and some don't ask your doctor for another antibiotic.
