I know that you can cross the border with a pet. I have done this, but I am told that the rules are different if you are bringing the dog to 'leave' in Canada. Does anyone know if this is true?

You need a letter from a vet stating that the dog is in good health

You just have to show proof from a vet that the dog is up to date on it's shots. Nothing else. I asked when I was going across to Canada to visit family and I wanted to dage my dog the next time and that all the border patrol told me. I asked on both the Cnadian side and the US side, same answer.

Yep, just records of vacccination and a letter from your vet stating the good health of your dog. I take my girl ( a Briard) with me back and forth all the time.

If you are importing a dog to Canada you will have to have accompany the dog and provide proof of rabies shots if the dog is over 3 months old. Those links should help you find the information you are looking for

Didn't you know??? Only Border Collies are allowed across the border.
If it's a Chihuahua, you have to make a run for the border!
