to have a handgun in the car, even unloaded.

Okay, if it's so "illegal" to have a handgun in your vehicle, then how in the hell are you supposed to take it home from the store or to other places where you'd legally have it to use, or whatever? What do you do: SHIP it everywhere you want it? PSCHHH!

What's up with that?

Hey, thanks, everybody, for your good answers. Yeah, some states do not place as much limitation on where you can have your handgun, so some of the below-mentioned limitations may not apply to you. You may also other legal rights which vary from state to state.

I guess I just didn't notice which state the cop I was watching was in (missed the mention in the show earlier), and maybe he just screwed up a bit when he said it, and/or maybe I just misunderstood the way he said it, somehow.

But yeah, you'd have to have some way of being able to move the gun around from place to place, or there wouldn't be much point in having it, would there?

I'll vote on your best answer later.

Thanks,
Mike Christensen

Okay, I don't have any guns except toys (squirt guns, cap guns, etc.) and my caulking gun, and except if ya call a drill with a screwdriver attachment a screw gun--and my mom has a glue gun--but I mean I don't have any weapon guns... but I was still curious about this, since the way I understood what that cop said on TV kind of irked me, so thanks for all these good answers, people. It's been nice talking with ya. It'll be hard for me to pick the best answer!

This is a loaded question, pun intended. In my state you can transport a firearm in the trunk as long as it is cased and unloaded. It can also be some where in the vehicle that the driver or passengers don't have quick access to if you don't have a trunk (pickup truck) but it still must be unloaded and cased. But you must have a receipt from the store that it was purchased and be en-route home, have a valid hunting license, membership card to a shoot range, or be en-route to a gun shop for repair work.

Now if you have a concealed weapons license none of this will apply to you as long as you are carrying the weapon as allowed under that license.

Most cars are equipped with trunks to store items which would be a fine place to store a handgun or any weapon for that matter. If you want to carry a weapon in the passenger compartment of your car, get a carry permit. It doesn't have to be so complicated.
If I wasn't able to legally carry a gun in all 50 states, I would keep it in the trunk.

Some states have a law where it is ok so long as it is unloaded and kept in a locked box other than the glove compartment and it is not left alone in the car and it is on transit to or from a legal shooting range or gun smith/shop, kinda makes it hard to defend yourself if you have to tell the muggers to wait while you unlock and load.

And no you cannot ship it, it is illegal by federal law to ship a hand gun even unloaded.

It depends on the state you live in. In Missouri a person can carry a handgun in their glove box and be O.K. There is also no gun registration in MO and you only have to have a background check if you buy from a dealer. If you buy it from some guy off the street you are good to go.

But even the strictest laws allow for transportation if the magazine is not in the gun.

Please tell me what state you are in and I can tell you the specific gun laws for your state.

Each state has different laws governing how firearms may be transported in vehicles. Generally unloaded in a case in the trunk is safe.

That said, don't get legal advice from a TV show.

ok, i will attempt to record them off. a million. The driving lower than the impression of alcohol. sure, it truly is a criminal offense the following because of the familiar public endangerment aspect. All that occurs is the guy is held in a cellular over evening to dry out then they get a mark on their record. after such truly some cases (i imagine it varies by technique of state, yet i'm no longer particular) the guy receives their licence revoked/suspended. 2. The stolen motorbike. properly, it truly is no longer a criminal offense to have the motorbike (so some distance as i understand), yet there's a reliable threat that the guy who has the motorbike stole it, and that is a criminal offense. If that man or woman is threat free, they only get the article taken away because it truly is evidence. 3. possession of unlawful drugs. it is a criminal offense, yet no longer as severe as having it with the reason to promote. it truly is one among those guidelines the position the authorities tries to pass guidelines for our own protection. same is going for the prostitution, regardless of the truth that it truly is a state by technique of state foundation. 4. truly some the time human beings are not arrested for rushing, they are only fined. it particularly relies upon on how compliant they are rather a lot. someone can get taken in in the journey that they do something stupid (operating, throwing a tantrum (relies upon on how undesirable it truly is), etc.) or in the journey that they have a warrant for his or her arrest. many human beings the following % too and in reality could pay an excellent. 5. How strict our justice is truly relies upon on the cop. also, police officials is filmed for leisure, and as such, isn't a reliable party of how strict we are. 6. i understand there is adjustments between international locations guidelines, yet i have in no way concept on how diverse they are. It would not sound like Italy is all that diverse from the following, only laxer. it would of been a huge suprise in case you had stated Italy became lower than martial regulation. also, you're English is large. a lot more suitable positive than my overseas language skills.

if you're under 18 it's proballly illegal...you might need to have a licence for perchancing some guns. It is NOT illegal to possess guns at home. (One of the 10 Amendments)

you can't take it to major transportations (ex airport, train, bus, etc)

the governmnet won't let you ship guns around cuz they screen some packages. They probably would take note of you if you buy guns online.

Don't believe everything you see on TV

If you own the gun and have the bullets one place and the gun another it should be ok. Just put the gun in the trunk unloaded and you should be ok. If and officer askes you if you have a weapon be sure and tell him yes and you should be ok.

You can transport a unloaded gun in a locked case or if it has a gun lock on it. It shouldn't be in your lap but in the trunk is fine. You cannot ship it unless you have a Federal Firearms License. (FFL)

,you cant ship it you have to take it to a licensed gun dealer and have them ship it to another licensed gun dealer, in Florida there must be a 3 step process to carry a gun in a car, example is unloaded in locked glove box, step one, unlock the glove box , step two, take gun out of holster, step three load gun i normally just leave the gun unloaded and put the ammo in the trunk,,,,,,,,
