I have a 6 month old baby who is dealing with congestion. he's had RSV diagnosis and has been on a nebulizer to help with breathing before that diagnosis. He's still coughing and he still has congestion.... Has anyone ever used Vick's Babyrub to help soothe their baby? I do use a Vick's humidifier whenever he's home but I am curious about vick's Babyrub.

take your child in the bathroom have the shower turned on hot water only shut the bathroom door sit on the toilet holding the baby let him breathe this air for 20 to 30 minutes do not put baby near the hot water.you must be careful with vicks products and babies and young children.you may rub a small amount on your babys chest but it must be washed completely off and dried well before you take your baby out anywhere.if not the child could develop pneumonia.good luck.

Speaking as a mother of 5 and a respiratory therapist it's definitely o.k. to use the Vick's as long as you only use it on the baby's chest. Keep it away from the mouth and nose area. Absolutely use the humidifier at home. Another suggestion is the newer lavender baby bath to help soothe and relax your child so that s/he can sleep better at night. If the congestion and the cough is continuing even tough the baby has been on nebulizer therapy you may want to make an appointment with your MD and insist on being seen right away. He might give you something to help thin out the mucus. RSV is nothing to mess with. Your baby's health is of paramount importance. If he gets worse go to the ER or urgent care in your area. Good luck.

Rub his chest and back with vicks babyrub. Also steam your bathroom up and sit with baby laying face down over your lap this will loosen everything up and help him to get rid of some of the congestion, Do this several times a day. This is what was done before nebulizers entered the market. It worked fine for my three children. Also give baby lots of water. Don't worry baby will be OK.

Yes when my daughter was young I had to use that too. It did help also having her sleep in her car seat won't hurt either this will help her with the congestion as well as the nebulizer and humidifier. My doctor also suggested that putting them in the bathroom on your lap and letting the shower steam is good if the other things are not working. But if the baby gets too bad don't be afraid to let the doctors help? Have you gone to a breath easy program.

when my girls are sick i use it at night when they go to bed

my grand mother would always say never go out side with it on i'm really not sure about that or why she said it

a vaporizer is great i keep it running all day

i heard but never tried running hot water in a sink and breathing in the steam from it

other than that i don't know of any thing that ican think of right now but the vicks at night is great i rub it up on thier chest as far as i can with out going past the top of the shirt hardly any coughs (but i'm talking colds)

best of luck

We use vicks all the time on our baby, its a good idea to use. You should call a doctor before you give him any medicine though.

When my daughter was a baby she was always congested and coughing and she rarely slept. I tried everything and one day a woman I know told me to change her formula to a Soy formula...I changed her to ISOMIL and OMG! she must have been allergic to that other formula because after changing her over ,her congestion and coughing went away and she started taking longer naps and she slept better at night, too.
