Yes, it's called self reinfection. This is pretty rare but it can happen.

People also get herpes in the eye (keratoconjunctivitis) by doing this. If they touch a cold sore and then rub their eyes then can spread it to their eyes.

This is why it is ALWAYS a good idea to wash your hands EVERY time after you touch a cold sore or herpes sore. You don't want to accidentally spread it to other parts of your body.

***Also, some people are REALLY confusing cold sores and genital herpes. They are NOT two different strains, they are the same virus! Cold sores can be caused by herpes simplex virus 1 or 2. And, genital herpes can be caused by herpes simplex virus 1 or 2. Usually cold sores are caused by herpes simplex virus 1 though, while genital herpes is usually caused by herpes simplex virus 2.

I personally have had genital herpes for 6 years now. Mine is caused by herpes simplex virus 1 (which is usually cold sores). But, I have NEVER had a cold sore in my life. Herpes simplex virus 1 and 2 affect BOTH the mouth and the genital area. They are the same virus!

Unfortunately YES you can spread mouth cold sores to the genital area. I spoke to a doctor about this subject today and there is alot of missunderstanding about herpes symplex 1 (cold sores) and herpes type 2 (genital herpes). Herpes whether on the mouth or genitals can be spread. If someone has a cold sore and they perform oral sex on their partner, they will get genital herpes. If you lick your cold sore and lick your lips, 100% chance of spreading the cold sore all around your mouth. If someone is prone to cold sores, do not kiss this person until at least 5 days after the sore has dissappeared. You might not see the sore, but they will still have a tingling feeling. WARN your partner to tell you if they have that tingling sensation. They have a responsibility not to pass this onto someone else. Please, safety first. Do not let someone give you oral sex if they are prone to cold sores. HERPES IS FOR LIFE. No cure, just suppressents.... As for infecting yourself, YES you can. Please always wash hands properly and do not touch a cold sore and then rub your eyes. Please... prevention is better because there is no cure.

Yes, there isn't any. Herpes is caused by a virus. Actually, there is little cure for viruses nowadays. The only thing that you can generally do in the case of a viral infection is strengthen the immune system and hope it fights it off. Not with Herpes, the immune system can't win against it. Thus you only get to treat the symptoms. Once you're infected, it stays with you for life. So don't get infected.

Personal experience. I have had genital herpes for over 5 years.

LISTEN TO ME! These people answering this are neophytes. You CAN give yourself genital herpes from your own cold sore. You can also infect your eyes with herpes. It is unlikely, as the virus is quite fragile. However, if you touch you cold sore and immediately touch you genitals or eyes, it can infect these areas. There are two different strains, and the medical consensus was that one affected your mouth and the other the genitals. It is no known that either virus (simplex 1 and 2) can infect either area! By the way, over 80% of the adult population has oral herpes, although most of them have no symptoms and therefore don't know they have it.

I got clinically diagnosed with herpes (type 2) about five years back, when I was still in college and had a foolish one-night stand. I know lots of young ladies will declare this, but I swear I had never done that sort of thing before. I just made a massive mistake that one time and suddenly I felt like I was going to have to live with the implications for my entire life. The worst part was feeling I could never date men again. In the end, who wants to go out with someone that has sores round her you-know-what? But since a friend shared this video https://tr.im/uSAzm everything improved.

Not only was I able to eliminate all remnants of the herpes simplex virus from my system in less than three weeks, but I was also able to start dating once more. I even met the man of my dreams and I'm so blessed to write that just last week, in front of everybody in a crowded restaurant, he got down on one knee and proposed to me! This system provided me the opportunity to be happy and experience true love. Now I want to help you too by sharing this with the whole World.

you can absolutely get genital herpes from oral sex. even though typically hsv1 is oral and hsv2 is genital you can have hsv2 in the mouth and hsv1 in your genitals. any STD information website will tell you this. you can also spread the disease your self to other parts of your body so you should always wash your hands after touching the infected area.
