You can still contract herpes even if his cold sore is gone. Genital herpes is the same way. Even if a person doesn't physically have a herpes sore present it is still possible to spread it. It's less likely you will contract the virus when there is no sore, but there is still a chance.

About 75-80% of the world has cold sores, so it is VERY common. So, chances of you contracting the virus, either from him or a future boyfriend is highly likely.

I got identified with the herpes simplex virus (type 2) about 5 years ago, whilst I was still in college and had a dumb one-night stand. I understand loads of girls say this, but I swear I had never done that sort of thing before. I just made a massive mistake that one time and suddenly it seemed like I was going to have to live with the consequences for my entire life. The worst part was feeling I could never date other men again. After all, who wants to go out with a girl who has sores round her "you know what" area? But since a friend shared this video https://tr.im/2dlYB everything improved.

Not only was I able to clear away all traces of the herpes simplex virus from my body in less than 21 days, but I was also able to begin dating again. I even met the man of my dreams and I'm so lucky to write that just a week ago, in front of everyone in a busy restaurant, he got down on one knee and proposed to me!! This program gave me back the chance to be happy and experience true love again. Now I want to help others too by sharing this story.

Wait until the cold sore is completely gone. If you don't, you are taking a very big chance of getting it. I know someone that it happened to. And to the person that said you can get genital herpes from oral sex with a cold sore, You need to check your facts. Cause they are two totally different types of herpes. One can not transform into the other.

sure, go ahead and kiss him now, you don't mind a lifelong herpes infection do you? If not than wait until a few days after the sore is gone.

Edit:
You can get a herpes infection on the genitals from oral sex from a person with oral herpes, and get herpes on your mouth by giving oral sex to someone with genital herpes. They are typically caused by different viruses (herpes simplex 1 causes oral herpes, Type 2 causes genital) but both are capable of infecting either area, as well as causing skin infections (Herpes Gladatorium, commonly seen in wrestlers), Infections around the fingernail (herpes Whitlow, and infections of the eye (herpes keratitis)

Better wait until it is gone. That's how they spread.
Also, just an FYI, if you are sexually active and you participate in oral sex, he can transfer a cold sore, which is herpes simplex, to the vagina area where it becomes then genital herpes.

A cold sore is a form of Herpes...It is highly contagious...I would wait until it has healed completely...

the virus can be spread, whether he has an outbreak or not. if you have already kissed him, then you're already at risk. kissing him now will increase the chances of you catching it, if you haven't already, but it's probably already too late. you can catch it from sharing drinks, chapstick, etc.
