i just had a baby 7 weeks ago, and since then have had a few encounters of unprotected sex. The first being 3 weeks ago... i have been taking test every few days and negative. is it too soon to rely on that answer?
if it is, if i take plan b for my recent encounter, could it affect that?

Taking a pregnancy test right after you have sex is way too early to tell if you are pregnant or not. You need to wait till you get your period. If you don't get your period, that is when you need to take a pregnancy test. Taking a pregnancy test right after you have sex doesn't give the sperm enough time to fertilize the egg. Home pregnancy tests normally cannot detect a pregnancy until at least 12-15 days after fertilization.

Also, Plan B should be taken as soon as possible and within the first 72 hours after having sex to be the most effective. If you wait any longer then 72 hours chances of it working are reduced greatly. And, Plan B (levonorgestrel) CAN be passed in breast milk, so definitely talk to your doctor before taking the medication! You don't want it to harm your new baby!

Good luck!

IT takes 10-14 days(I think) to know if you are preg. from the day you have sex. The day after pill was recommended to me from my dr. and I have used several times in the last few months... But after Friday, I will need no more for 5 years... I know I want more, so I am getting an IUD so I can have it removed at any time and have more children, But for now I dont hafta worry about it anymore... And the good thing is alot of insurances pay for it, and it has almost no side effects.. I cant take most other BC, so this will be GREAT!!!

If you are breastfeeding your baby and not having menses you have condition known as Galactose amenorrhea, meaning you are safely protected from being pregnant again since you are not ovulating (producing fertile eggs). I will not advised you to take contraceptive pills at this point. My advised is you husband should wear condom but that is not 100% protective. The best way is still ABSTINENCE as part of your family planning. Have a consult with your OB-Gyne on other family planning method. We have also IUD and cervical cap or post-coital douch method.
