I have been having sudden and sharp pain in my lower left chest area for about a week or so. It isn't constantly hurting. Once or twice a day I feel a sudden stabbing pain with every breath for a few moments, and then it goes away. But it doesn't hurt with every breath. Does anyone have any ideas on what this could be?

Angina could be one cause of chest pain in which case a doc would prescribe nitroglycerin tablets or spray. Angina can be a precursor to a heart attack. Chest pain is sometimes a symptom of panic attacks-where people often mistake it for a heart attack. I have also experienced chest pain but, have never had it checked by doctor. He/she needs to be the one to find the diagnosis. Don't take a chance.

Sounds like Pleurisy. That's an infection in the lining of the lungs. All organs have a protective lining around them.
You're doctor has a pill for Pleurisy. It's quite common And easy to treat.

I'll tell you what my doctor told me, "Don't mess with chest pains and don't be a self-diagnostician. See me, or a cardiac specialist right away." It could just be heart burn or it could be a sign of something entirely different and more severe. So, play it safe and see a doc.
