I was diagnosed with asthma when I was younger, and was actually a test case in Boston. I would keep the whole family up at night coughing, and having trouble breathing. I was on Intal and Albuterol, and used a few others at the time. Yes, it is possible to outgrow it, and many children do. Keep a good eye on him, and ask the doctor if an emergency albuterol inhaler is neccessary. I have since gotten a lot better than when I was a child, and only have an emergency inhaler now, which I use very little. However, I have never been able to get rid of the asthma fully. As long as you take care of the asthma properly, your child will be able to lead a very full and active life. I was a three letter sports player in High School, and still played in college, and I was in the military for five years. That is what having it under control will do for you. I wish you the best of luck, and hope this has helped.

I feel your pain. I've had asthma for 14 years now and have seen several doctors. The truth is, there is no known cure for asthma at the moment. But the symptoms can be prevented. It really depends on what causes your brother's asthma. Mine is usually dust and hot weather. But I think the universal method is using the control inhaler.

I cured my Asthma the natural way?

Sorry to hear about the asthma. Our two boys started asthma at 4 months old. It would be a good idea to have the doctor set you up with a nebulizer to administer some of the drugs... it puts the drugs in a very fine mist for inhalation.. They may have used one to treat him in the doctor's office or ER because of their effectiveness. The nebulizer should have a child's mask to hold over his face (some look like a little fish. They are covered by some insurances being durable medical equipment and aren't more than $75 - $140. When delivered by a medical supply company, they will instruct you and fit your boy. Good luck.

My son started about this age too. He did (and still does) the inhalers and nebulizer treatments. He is 16 now and only gets asthma with illness or at a certain time in the summer. Just make sure you always keep an inhaler with you, and when he starts school he should always have one at the nurse's office. He'll do fine, really!

I'm an adult with asthma and I use some of the very same meds you mentioned that your son takes. I take the albuteral syrup in a nebulizer breathing machine. I also take two puffs of Advair inhaler twice daily. I know I'm an adult and he's a child, this is just info to keep in mind. Hope I helped?

Im sure you already know about a dust, mold, cat dander free environment. Ive seen a lot of kids outgrow asthma. But in your son's case you will just have to wait and see. All the medications your son is on are good ones. Its really best to consult his doctor about things you want or need to do if you are in doubt.

hi i have asthma too.i would have to say that he would be fine if he just took the medication like the doctors told him to.also my asthma gets a little better as i get older.although if i get a cold or the flu i may keep it longer or have it a little worse than others.it might be the same way with your son.(nebulizer may also help, talk to you doctor about it)
