I was sick last week with a fever, congestion, coughing, and sneezing. I stayed away from swim team practice all last week, and I just returned yesterday. However, I got a severe pain in my chest when I inhaled and it continued to worsen that evening. It was very painful, and I don't have asthma or any other condition that I'm aware of. Also, I used to get severe pains in what I guess would be my heart when I inhaled at certain times. These spells usually lasted 4-5 breaths. Very occansionally, I used to have some trouble catching my breath when I was younger. Does it sound like I have asthma, something else, or that my lungs were just weakened from the sickness and couldn't take that much exercise?

sure doesn't sound like asthma- i have asthma. you could have a secondary infection from the cold you had, or some inflammation in the lining of your lungs. i'd have a doctor check it out right away.
with asthma, an attack will cause wheezing, shortness of breath and a feeling like you have to struggle to get air in and out.
