Obesity is a contributing factor in developing type 2 diabetes, as is genetics. In fact, one of the tratments for type 2 diabets involves weight loss and weight maintenance (maintaining a healthy weight) through proper diet and exercise, as well as quite often requiring medication, for control of glucose levels. So, no, diabetes doesn't cause obesity.

No. For people with type 2 diabetes, obesity is often a factor in why they got diabetes, but not the other way around. My diabetes nurse told me that for people with type 1 diabetes (not at all linked to lifestyle), average weight is higher than for people without it, but that doesn't mean that diabetes causes obesity, just that people with type 1 diabetes find it a little bit harder to loose weight than other people - every time I go to the gym even though I've cut my insulin before, I end up eating heaps to keep my blood sugar up - v anoying as often feel like I'm just undoing all my good work!!!

Not normally, no. Usually obesity causes diabetes, not the other way around.

However, insulin resistance (a pre-diabetic condition) can cause obesity. This is usually when the body produces too much insulin and doesn't properly use it, causing the sugar receptors in the cells to shut down. This can cause swings in blood sugar and weight gain.

Causes of obesity:-
Age: This is most prevalent in middle age and can occur at any stage of life.
Socio-economic: In developing countries it is more prevalent in the wealthy society, whereas in fully developed countries it is more common in lower-socioeconomic groups.
Heredity: Obesity tends to run in families. A clearer role of genetics helps in prevention of obesity on those who are most vulnerable. Eighty percent of the offspring of two obese parents become obese.
Endocrine factors: Abnormal influence or imbalance can be one of the causes of obesity. Obesity in women commonly begins at puberty, during pregnancy or at menopause.
Drugs: The use of steroids, oral contraceptives and insulin is commonly followed by weight gain.

You mean Diabetes. Actually, just the opposite is true--obesity may trigger diabetes, especially if you have a family history of it. You can be diabetic and thin, but it's more common that you are overweight. Obesity can also increase your risk of heart problems, stroke, and sleep apnea.

According to recent studies conducted by the Pritikin Longevity Center, diabetes starts from too much fat in the diet and insufficient exercise, not malfunction of the pancreas as previously thought. The pancreas continues to produce insulin when you have diabetes but the body becomes insulin resistant. Research has shown that over 90% of diabetes cases can be TOTALLY CORRECTED with diet and exercise. That means that you don't have to have limbs removed due to diabetes-induced gangrene. You don't have to go blind or suffer cardiovascular abnormalities because of diabetes. You can actually REVERSE some of these conditions with diet (nutrition, not weight loss) and exercise, and the removal of parasites and candida.

I guess you mean diabetes.

No obesity causes type 2 diabetes, it is why this disease is increasing exponentially as we as a species get fatter. Perversely all but one drug used to lower blood sugars also causes weight gain! (metrormin)
