Another great book to read is the Cholesterol Myth. It shows some hard data on the scam of high cholesterol being viewed as a disease. It may be a symptom of ill health, but it may also be a sign of something else...for example, the body can make extra cholesterol to turn into Vitamin D.

Looking at the Cholesterol Myth book from prev post, I also found this book
The Heart Revolution: The Extraordinary Discovery That Finally Laid the Cholesterol Myth to Rest

Which essentially says
Homocysteine, and amino acid present in our bodies, has been identified as the cause of heart desease - as well as blood clots, stroke, and gangrene

Explains how eating vitamin b6, b12, folic acid from fresh whole foods can control homocysteine levels

Even a test for Homocysteine,

6-8 micromoles /liter - normal
> 12 micromoles - elevated

Let me know if any of this makes sense

there are two types of cholesterol: the high density lipoprotein or good cholesterol and the low density lipoprotein or the bad cholesterol. both are found in the blood.

the high density lipoproptein or HDL should be higher than your low density lipoprotein (LDL). LDL's in the blood are the ones that cause calcification in the arteries leading to heart attacks or stroke. the HDL's are the one responsible for evacuating the LDL's from the blood preventing damage to the arteries. HDL's can be increased with regular exercise and proper nutrition.

so you see, having high levels of GOOD cholesterol or HDL's can help you live longer.
