Chromium Picolinate, it's an over the counter medicine than has shown success in reducing blood sugar levels in Type 2 diabetes. Strong aerobic exercise is also a good idea.

If a person has a professional diagnosis of diabetes, and their blood sugar still gets too high, then they need to go to a doctor and probably get on some insulin! This is no laughing matter! There are many problems with diabetes that pretty serious. However, in answering your question, the best way for anyone to lower their blood sugar and stave off Type II Diabetes is to LOSE WEIGHT and AVOID SUGAR! There are many "diabetic diets" on the internet. They really aren't that hard to follow. Exercise is the best way. Start off small...5-10 minutes of hard walking and just keep increasing! That really is the best way. Lifestyle modification! If he still has problems (after seeing a Dr.) He can contact Social Services for Emergency Medical Coverage! Or maybe the American Diabetic Association can help as well! Good Luck!! And when in doubt, make payments and Go See A Doctor!!!!! or a Nurse Practitioner!! They have the ability to monitor and prescribe medications such as insulin and it isn't as expensive!

Exercise! Exercise consumes blood sugar, so the effect is it reduces circulating blood sugars.
Careful attention to diet helps, too. Some foods like white bread and baked goods, cause a spike in blood sugar, while other foods, like proteins and whole grains create a slower rise, a leveling off, and a slow decline in blood sugar.
Do some research on glycemic index to learn how specific foods affect blood sugar. This knowledge is the best thing a diabetic can use to regulate his blood sugar.

Have him cut his carbohydrates, not just his sugar intake. I'm diabetic and my sugar actually jumps higher after I eat something high carb like pizza or pasta than it does after just a sugary treat like chocolate. Eatting more protein with meals, and very little carbs is a very good way of keeping blood sugar low. If he controls his blood glucose level well enough with diet he may not end up needing insulin. Also, exercise lowers your glucose levels as well. If his diabetes was caused by being overweight then the weight loss from controlling his diet and exercising could resolve the situation entirely.

Why not permanently lower it?

The AMA says there is no cure for diabetes, but they are the same ' unbiased experts' who say there is no cure for cancer, and make our citizens go out of the country for effective treatment. Just ask Suzanne Sommers, who had cancer till she received treatment in England. She is cured, now.

Yes, there absolutely IS a cure for type 2 diabetes, but it's not a magic pill. A person must have enough will power to change the things in his life that caused him to start being a diabetic in the first place.

Quoting Dr. Frank right here on Yahoo! Answers, " A group of doctors took some newly diagnosed type 2 diabetics, and, with their permission, put them through a VERY tough program of diet, weight loss and VERY vigorous exercise. They were very closely supervised, controlled and monitored. About 30% of them were able to bring their glucose tolerance tests back to normal, which did mean they were no longer technically diabetic." Hey, that's a diplomatic way of saying they were CURED.

Second, in WWII London, standard items like sugar and white bread, and extra cooking oil, and civilian gasoline were almost non-existent for several years, and Londoners ate basic foods and walked a lot, or rode bicycles. A strange thing happened--diabetes, which had been at epidemic proportions before the war, practically disappeared--until the war ended and people returned to their normal deitary and exercise habits--and, you guessed it--the diabetes reappeared. That's a true story, and that alone points to the real problem and solution.

Third, we have modern documentation reaffirming the proof of a cure for type 2 diabetes--watch this 8-minute, non-profit video trailer, and you can be convinced, too.

And last, if we are so wasted our bodies will not heal on their own, we have effective help to get well.
The book, "One Son's Quest for the Cause and Cure of Diabetes", ISBN 7890766313, outlines a simple plan to use herbs and minerals to retune our bodies and bring our metabolisms back to normal. Here are the main items he has researched, and that work--

Cinnamon
Bitter Melon
Gymnema Sylvestre
Nopal cactus
American Ginseng
Fenugreek
Chromium picolinate

Cinnamon regulates glucose, and has a polyphenol compound called MHCP that mimics insulin and activates cell receptor sites. A quarter teaspoon twice daily makes a difference. Fenugreek increases blood flow and inhibits the growth of infectious organisms. Everything on the list has a use in fighting diabetes, and when combined with the proper diet and exercise, can bring hope to almost all type 2 diabetics who will believe and work the program.

Best of luck.

I have been wondering the possibility of cannabis oil being used as a possible treatment for type 1's. my husband is a type 1 and at first we thought because of the autoimmune function of the disease it might not work but then I have been researching the endocannabinoid system an it acts more as a stabilizer. A means of regulating homeostasis neurologically as well as metabolic and physical. I am in awe of the possibilities of cannabis and since pharmaceuticals seem to make him sicker I would love to see if this works! That being said you cant just play around with a functioning working diabetic without knowing consequences but from what we know it is far less harmful than even your average breakfast cereal. look up the endocannabinoid system and rso oil. prepare to be awed!

Put him on a low carb diet or the 30/40 Diet Plan - Eliminate bread, potatoes, sugar and fried foods - eat lots of vegetables and limit fruit. Honey is good substitute for sugar. Lean meat only. Three main meals with 2 small snacks - l between lunch and dinner and 1 at bedtime.

Make sure he knows what "sugar" is. It's any carbohydrate, not just sweets as some people think. If he can't stay on constant care, he needs to count carbs. Get a cheap book that helps him keep track of what foods have the lower carbs. EXERCISE and lots of water. If he cant stay medicated, he'll have to try to control it with diet and exercise.
