So far I have seen and heard very little good in regards to the Windows Vista operating system. For those that have already purchased a computer with the system, or upgraded to it, what are your veiws and comments on the Vista system. I have yet to hear anyone really claim to like it, and some of the details I have seen so far indicate that Vista is pretty much a bloated, before its time, memory hogging excuse of an OS.

when I said force fed, sadly I do mean it... Compaq/HP, Gateway, Dell, even Toshiba all show only Vista OS if you try to build one online. After calling each of them, only HP would offer XP, but only on thier business side. Dell and Gateway flat out stated to me that they do not sell XP anymore, and Toshiba rep could not give me a good answer, saying that they only could find Vista as being available. Now granted, XP is still available for purchase, but finding it at a store in a computer, is becoming almost impossible.

youngdominick, careful on your comment with Linux being bulletproof against viruses... patently not true, as I or any of the IT guys I work with can attest to. There are limits to what does attack Linux, simply due to the fact that Linux is not as widely used... similiar to the Internet Explorer/Firefox/Mozilla issue... IE is used a lot more, it is subject to more viruses and trouble than Mozilla is.

You are correct in saying that when you hear some folks talk about windows vista they are saying negative things however if you dig deeper and talk more to that person, I have yet to have them say "I bought it and I don't like it."

It's always "I don't want to pay the money to upgrade as I hear its slow etc.."

Well I have windows vista and it's awesome. I'll tell you what the problem really is, it's not vista its their old outdated computer.

For example, some folks are running Pentium 2 and III's using xp and they only have 512 memory. So that's like, lets say a Toyota Mr2 small sportscar.

Vista is more like a Lamborghini 12 cyclinder engine so when you get an old outdated computer with a little memory and an old processor of course they are not going to say its their computer lol they blame it on the Lamborghini requirements.

A Lamborghini uses a lot of gas a lot of oil and has a huge engine.

But it also is more valuable than the toyota.

If something is not good its always lower price in the market place. Computers with VIsta are fetching much better prices than computers with xp so obviously vista is better.

Back in the days of windows 3.1 people were complaining when they had to put in 256 memory. Then Windows 98 came out and more memory was required so they bi***ed about having to put 512 mb in.

Then xp came out and they complained about having to upgrade video cards and again, more memory lol.

People don't want change but change is good. Look at the games and applications today compared to yester-year. They are awesome. Change is required if we want to keep getting faster and faster and better and better and Vista is awesome.

Now if someone has low memory and an old processor of course they are better off to stick with xp but if they want to have a Lamborghini Vista is much better.

I can go on and on but let me give some facts. I have used 98, xp, 2000 and Vista and Vista blows them all away.

Here are just a few reasons why I love it
1. Faster than my xp machine. I am running a duo core AMD and I love gaming on it. The games are smoother and faster and ONLY VISTA supports Direct x 10 which is the newest gaming support. Go to youtube.com and do a video search on CRYSIS and you'll see how better the games look.

2. Built in Antispyware better than the kind you have to pay for commercially with Lifetime updates Free!

3. Also at the youtube.com site you can see a video of vista and you know how you can alt-tab and switch from window to window? Well now you can ALSO Windows-key-tab and Rotate the windows in Rolodex fashion which is a hot feature and easier to find and manipulate windows.

4. Ready boost!
With xp and other systems if you want to add memory you have to open up your machine and find the right memory and size and stick it in the slot and pray that it works. With Vista they have Memory sticks! You can easily add 1 gig or 2 or even 3 gigs of memory by putting the stick in your usb. Although a lot of readers of this post will say "Well I know how to put in memory" the facts are the majority of the population doesn't have a clue but they know how to plug a device into the usb port. I thought that was brilliant.

5. ADVANCED PERFORMANCE OPTIONS for the hard drive!
Also if you go into control panel there is a function where you can set your hard drive to be faster and more responsive. Again great for video, gaming etc..

6. The scary truth about xp and 98
The scary truth is over 90% of all viruses and spyware and adware has ALREADY been programed for Xp and 98 but there are fewer viruses and adware for Vista as Vista is all new code from the ground up.

7. Setting up a net work is super easy
Now if you want to connect computers or get on the net wirelessly its a lot easier. Xp had me saying a lot of bad words when I tried to get it set up lol, but Vista was polished and professional.

8. Xp crashing and crashing
I haven't had 1 crash since I got Vista but on xp it would crash

9. Gadgets are very useful!
They now have a mouse out that has lights on it and when you get an email from someone your mouse light flashes. It works with vista. Also you have tons of gadgets. You can have them on the screen while you work. They have gadgets for almost everything and they are all free! You can have a gadget that shows the temperature of your computer inside if you do a lot of gaming like I do thats important to keep your system monitored.

You can have a gadget that keeps an eye on your stocks. We have stock in starbucks coffee for example and today it went up 45 cents a share and it was kinda cool to see it live on the gadget as it changes.

You can have a gadget that streams breaking news across a portion of your screen. I predict the gadgets to be a real hit as they even have a kit where you can download it free and make your own gadget.

10. Are their any bad things about Getting a new computer with vista?
The answer to that is no BUT...do not think that VIsta is making your computer slow if you get a new computer. For example I got an awesome laptop from hp.com with Vista home premium on it.

I got 2 gigs memory on it too which is above average BUT when I turned the computer on it was slow. As I dug deeper into the machine they (hp not vista) had adware and programs loading in the start up so they were all running in the backround. You know the kind, like the kind telling you to sign up with aol or another adware telling you to join a music download site, and I had another one on my system saying to rent dvds and all that jazz...

After I went through the computer (and it took me 2 days to find everything) and cleaned it out Vista was UNLEASHED in all its beauty, Glory and Pizzaz and I now have the computer of my dreams.

So when you get a new computer, yeah, you will need to go through it and take off the free offer, adware software but its good they put that stuff on there as those advertisers make the computer cheaper for you and I. And besides, you can always remove it after you get it so its win win.

So my advice is go with Vista, do not fight change but embrace it. 10 years from now we will be on such powerful computers that will look back at Vista like we do windows 3.1 and we will still be complaining then.

So in closing we can be optimistic about the change and look at all the benefits or gripe about change. Either way were all going to end up 10 years down the line in the same place...but who is going to have a better time along this voyage? I choose to be postive.

Switch to Vista guys...and gals, its awesome.

Microsoft are not claiming that Vista can be run safely without an anti-virus program installed. If Vista were really secure (as Linux is) then it could be run all day with no anti-virus. However pretty Vista is, it STILL isn't secure.

Linux is totally immune to all viruses, spyware, malware, trojans, keyloggers and all the other nasties. So the decision of which operating system to surf with is a no brainer. Linux is bulletproof - truly like surfing in a tank.

If you want to use Windows XP or Vista offline, no problem. You can run it with no anti-virus or firewall as it's offline, and it will run much faster without the security software draining the processor.

One of the reasons that Vista hogs massive amounts of RAM is the incredibly complex anti-piracy systems built into it. Vista uses half its brainpower trying to detect attempts BY YOU to analyze the system, so basically it assumes you are a criminal. The funny thing is that Vista's anti-piracy system has already been completely circumvented by running it in virtualization software. Fully unlocked Vista is already available for sale at warezstore.com ready-embedded in virtualization. So all Vista's anti-piracy processes are a waste of time, a waste of RAM, and a waste of CPU power.

I just bought a dual core 64 bit laptop with 2gigs of memory....
I have had no problems with vista in the 2 weeks i have had it. Yeah it uses about 500 mb or ram at idle, but if i have it why care? Yes i know xp would be a bit faster but i doubt i could tell the diffrence. everything opens fast and works. The security prompts are a bit of a pain, but i have turned them down so not an issue anymore. the best pro i would have to say is the new search option. real time search results from your hard drive. cant tell you how many times this has come in handy. vista is visually very pretty but that may not matter to you. Is it worth it? maybe not, would i turn it down on a new pc, no way. XP is fine but vista is better..............

Itunes works perfect for it. I have Vista and an Ipod that works perfect with it. If you do get Vista, make sure it's not the base program cause that one is twice as worse as the Premium ones. I really don't have much bad to say about it. I haven't had any problems with it except that it likes to block everything on its own and you got to manually unblock it. Nothing to good to say about it either except that a lot of programs seem to be Vista only but I'd recommend staying with XP.

I got my new windows vista 3 weeks ago, and at first i was not too convinced about it , but it is better than xp, it looks better and it feels better (speed) it is true, security does bug a lot but its good in a way, at first i did not like the way that it looked, it maight had been that i was not used to the way that it looked and i tried to put the win XP theme but it did not have it. I wanted the XP theme to 1st get used to the way it acts (new things that it does) and then changing the theme back to vista to get used to the new look. but it did not have xp that is the only problem that i had

So who, exactly, is forcing you or anyone else to buy this "bloated, before its time, memory hogging excuse of an OS?"
The last I heard, this is still a free country, and people are still free to buy anything they have the money to pay for, and some things they don't have the money to pay for. If you bought it and don't like it, you should have checked it out thoroughly before you bought. If you didn't, you have no one to blame but yourself. If you didn't buy it and don't have it, what's your gripe?

I've had it for a few, never liked it, they made it too easy for novices and too hard to use for experienced users, plus so many compatibility issues and bugs.
I don't know of any pro's
