With a bit of practice your kitchen is the place to look!! Start simple -- google on sauerkraut. Sure it's a stereotypical food -- but I like it in all its varieties. Wash it ten times or not at all; cook it with wine, beer, or chicken stock; add sausages or apples; THERE are no restrictions. Then move on you easily become a master.

Depends where you live.
In Manhattan, Rolf's on 3rd Ave is great.
In Glendale, Queens, go to Zum Stammtisch.
In Ft. Lauderdale, FL go to the Old Heidelberg Restaurant.

I honestly don't like German food catrina. It's bland and loaded with fat.

Delicious wholesome food. Look in the michelin books if you are in germany and are looking for good food. They do have affordable restaurants.
